OK, so we have 'Out and about on your Laverda. No Bull, Just Photos' thread where we can see lots of lovely shiny Laverdas in lovely shiny situations. Ohhh so nice.

Well, just for fun and a good dose of piss-taking, let's see photos of the other side of the coin... the dark side of Laverda ownership.

The time when your sidestand broke and the bike hit the dirt, the time the screwdriver slipped and took a gouge out of the tank, the time when you bent a valve and trashed a head, the time when the factory got it wrong and it just 'broke'. You get the drift. Big or small - no mishap is unworthy of ridicule :)

Line 'em up....

That sinking feeling - when you spot for the first time that your 3C head has developed 'the corner crack', and the more you look the longer the crack gets, down and down. Still at least you know where all the oil is coming from now :)

DPOs" idea on how to make the switch gear fit a quick action throttle. All I have to offer, here endeth the thread :)

One of the many results of crashing into the back of a police car and falling sideways.... Sorry officer! 👮‍♂️

What happens when some doddery old twat cuts across in front of you (yes, 15 years on and I'm still feeling pissed off about it ...;))

Zane 750S, The biggest pile of crap I ever bought! (The Tesco bag holds the wiring, to stop it getting wet when I washed it down)
Hideous thing, thank the supreme being for Breganze Triples, (this pile of shit has been in this state for longer than I care to think, it is a lot dustier than this now I can assure you!) :(

Love to know what plugs all you holier than thou piston owners were using!

As for the Zane - beautiful rolling chassis! - just needs something reliable built into it.

I guess I'm not going to be able to respoke this wheel!
Marchesini wheel from 668 Ghost after side impact.

PB2, sorry no pictures but this is the tale. We, me and my mateHobbs rode up from Perth to Geraldton both riding our 73 3C's. Left Perth Satdee mornin cuz our mate Larry was getting married in the afternoon in Geraldton. My 73 got a puncture and shredded the tube so we parked it in Green Head and completed the ride two up on his 3C. Later on, 20 miles south of Geraldton hustling to get there in time for the wedding, fffffbangppplff Hobbs' 3C burns a hole in the center piston, so now it is running like a twin on kero. Long story short made it in time for the wedding, great piss up, Next day pulled the plug (B8ES) out of the middle pot and headed south, put a new tube in my bike then completed the ride back to Perth 380+km at 120kmh + both bikes no problems only Hobbs's 3C (twin) , pretty slow to accelerate once it was up to speed no worries (and yes we grounded the center spark plug). A memorable trip, both my mates have gone now, RIP Larry, Hobbs. Oh yeah PB2, we were both running B8ES pligs.

Hefty indents in the inlet valve pocket there.
I holed a piston with the 140 mains that came in the bike and listened to advice that the they ran better with 240 (hotter, similar to B8) plugs than the 260 (closer to B9) Bosch spark plugs, 160km/h touring with a passenger on SF2, train ride home. I know of plenty who holed pistons in similar circumstances on twins. The 140 mains were the main culprit, I have raced with B8ES and correct jetting without problem, but you don't hold full throttle for minutes on end when racing.

B9ES in my case, don't usually ride on motorway, but I this day. A Ford engine plant engineer I know told me that the way the piston crown had melted and distorted was indicative of timing problems. The molten piston had been spat out the exhaust, the valve was coated in aluminium and the valve seat had specs of aluminium adhering to it. Had intended to fit a Pazon ignition and give the bike moreof a going over before the event (I'd not had it long), but ran out of time fixing other things.

All the holed pistons I have ever seen have been due to timing not lean running. Heard of a lot of Morinis holing pistons running Boyer ignition, were any of these Laverda 750‘s running Boyer? I had a Boyer / Pirahana thing on a Z900 speedway sidecar and it would have a fit timing wise at peak revs so without changing anything else fitted a Dyna, transformed the way the bike started and ran and revved , max revs for two minutes!

Not so Harsh , as much as harsh on the eye
