Broken Hill - 80s Jota owner?

Did you camp on the mountain at Bathurst, it was brilliant fun back then. Hope someone knows the bloke. Be a great ending for sure. My gravel rash story came after I crashed years ago on the outskirts of Narrabri. The local GP, charming arsehole gave my 18-year-old self a lecture while I was dripping blood on his surgery floor about being sick of fixing Motorcyclists and he wasn't interested and I should piss off to the hospital, that I had no idea was there. The local Theatre Nurse dressed the gravel rash, it was on my shoulder and BAD. So I continued to Serate in Queensland where I discovered I also had it under my armpit. That scab had formed through my T-shirt. I spent the next week turning up to that One Nurse Hospital in Serate having the dressing changed. Those dressing kept sticking so every day the scabs came off again. Those Nurses were fantastic, horrible job but they did their best for me. My first and last bit of Gravel rash, I learned a good lesson about wearing gear in plus 40c. BTW Mad Max 2 was filmed as Silvertown as well. I have a story about that as well. Not now though.

Not sure how much help I will be as Canada is a long way from Australia ...... but when I had a bit of time off from the bush fires a couple of years ago I did connect with a few vintage desmo type Ducati folk and I'll pass the message on to them.

One helluva story ........ glad you have shared it with us and glad you're still riding (especially a proper Italian bike).

To All,

Many thanks for the welcomes and for hearing me out. I know a lot of years and water has gone under the bridge, but I truly appreciate you all taking the time to read this thread. And to everyone who has suffered the old gravel rash yes, you need an old school nurse not a lecturer. But that said wear full gear!!!!!!

And yes as many of you have hinted, I may end up being one of those annoying female riders who rides under the limit to the coffee shop on a Saturday morning dressed in my best - you’re right my survival instinct has and probably will continue to limit me. But I am trying hard and am obviously hard to put down and I don’t give up easily.

That said please put your thinking caps on (especially you ole timers 🥰), I’m not hear to relive my youth, I’m truly hear to find an old mate, and yes for some reason I have a feeling of urgency about it.

G - will be in his mid to late 60’s now, he worked on the roads and drove a grader, I believe, and he may just have gone where the work took him. He was a Queenslander so he may have returned to the sunshine state. He may not even ride anymore.

Yes I remember the Mad Max movies and was often a nurse on set for the many movies made out there in the day. I do remember names like Rory, Kieran and Pat Doyle. I don’t know if they knew G as he was a bloke who kept to himself. In fact he spent more time with that bloody Ducati in the living room than with people. I can thank him for why my Guzzi already has a pride of place waiting for it in the living room 🙈🙈🙈

Happy to try and answer any questions and I really appreciate your efforts.

PS who or what is RON???

Regards
Nadia

Hahaha ......... Ron would approve!

I have passed on your info to some Ducati folk in NSW. Hopefully they can help you out.

Edit: I see that you have already contacted some and they are not being so helpful ......

Hi Jim,

They don’t know me and I get that, thanks for the nudge along.

My cousin moved to BH many years ago, he likes solitude. Last I heard he was a grader driver for the Shire, doing bush road work (which suited his plight perfectly) I’ll check with his sister and see if he can be tracked down.

Chances are grader drivers might be as clicky as motorcyclist.

And further to Cams comments, I am reformed.

We had to clean up the forum some years ago and I have been (in the main) ‘clean’ since.

Except for a few little outburst like this one:
Fuck you Cam 😉

there are 3 x Laverda's that I know of in Broken Hill, 1 x 750 and 2 x 81 Jota's
One Jota is owned by the owner of Broken Hill Equipment hire and is one of the bikes I restored and than sold to him, his brother owns the 750

But the other Jota is owned by Graham Wright who has been to QLD as his Jota has history
It threw a conrod early in its life and he had it fixed at Peter Stevens, after it was repaired he went touring on it up into QLD but the crank failed again near Brisbane so he had Ted Bloody Saga redo the crank in Brisbane, then he finally went back to Broken Hill
He still lives in BH and still owns the Jota

I'll send you his phone number

And if you are wondering what happened to your phone number, being an Admin on this site I deleted it from your post

Hi Redax5,

This sounds exactly like the person G and bike I’m looking for and I wonder why that Jota has history 🥸.

I understand re the phone number thanks for looking out for me much appreciated.

What an incredible story, Nadia! There I was thinking you might have dropped his Jota on its side and scratched it. You certainly went through the ringer and the list of injuries and rehab is severe. Huge kudos for coming out the other side with what seems a great attitude to life.

Looks like Red might be on the money with your search for Graham. That would be a wonderful postscript!

Blimey. When I asked about the Jota crash I wasn't expecting that story of carnage!

Not so good to hear of body parts being found in your jacket. I'm relieved that it had a happy ending with you making a good recovery though, and that you're still able to work and ride your Guzzi. Although one would have to question the sanity of anybody who went through that trauma and still wanted to ride a motorcycle. Not that I can claim to be any more sane. I've had some nasty crashes - broken bones, dislocations, ruptured kidney. I now have an artificial knee courtesy of motorcycling and I'm too stupid to quit riding.

Likewise Chris, you old bastard 😘

Note: For anyone who doesn't speak Australian, don't be alarmed. There's no animosity here. This is just how Australian mates talk to each other.
Hi Nadia I live in Victoria and have been on Laverda's since the mid 70s I used to ride with a couple of mates one was a girl that rode a Vincent and her boyfriend of the time a Guzzi Lemans that ended up having an accident near lake Como, this wouldn't be you would it?????
