Broken Hill - 80s Jota owner?

Hi Dellortoman,

If you’re tall the Guzzi just won’t be comfortable for you, I hear that all the time. I’m 5ft 4 and the V7 Stone is perfect for me. I’m not into girls bikes - boys bikes but like everything it either fits or it doesn’t and like a good pair of shoes either grows with you or doesn’t. The Guzzi can be fitted with the gel saddle would that help?

When my wife passed her bike test 6 years ago now, we'd narrowed down the choice of bike to a new 750 Guzzi or the then new Triumph Street Twin. She never got the opportunity to try the Guzzi, the dealer was full of excuses and always talked to me when we went together which really pissed her off. She now has over 50 000 km on her Triumph!
And a 500 Laverda, and latest contraption, a 125 Yamaha DTMX. This was it's trial run last Sunday. I rode behind and am still coughing.

I hope you remembered it’s a two stroke Paul and by the way they chew spark plugs

Old? Yes. But there's too much flab on my bones to be bony. More likely to be my excess weight that's putting pressure on my arse.

Maybe I need a bike with a couch rather than a seat.

I love the Falcone but I’m more intrigued by the brickwork on the windmill- never seen that before- possibly to counter the effect of the big fan on the front?

I'm on tenterhooks, hoping the elusive Graham can be found - I haven't been so engrossed in an Aussie drama since Natalie Imbruglia was in Neighbours :)

Of all the G, in all the corners of the world, the right G has been found….

Stay tuned

I think his dislike of it had something to do with lack of power

My experience with a Breva 750 (older and even less power) is the bloody thing feels gutless ....... until you realize how fast you are going. Handled very, very well and as long as you braked late and kept corner speed it held its own with bikes of twice the power in the twisties.

I rated that bike in my top 10 for grin factor!

I recall the stories of one of the Guareschi boys racing against the Triumph Bonnevilles in a Stock class in Italy (with the V7 Racer). He would be last into the first corner and be leading by the end of the first lap. Protested a few times and all bone stock (except for allowable suspension mods).

I think that's an optical effect of some kind. I'll go back and have a closer look, it's just up the road.

well against all odds, we have success, have tonight received a reply from Graham Wright who is living in Broken Hill
Max and I run a register of Laverda's that we find in Aussie and it is because of that register that we knew of the Laverda's in Broken Hill
Will pass his details on to Nadia but this is part of the reply he sent me

Hi Red,
Yes ,I am the bloke that owns the jota that Nadia was on when it crashed in 1983 or 4. I was working on roadworks at the time at Wilcannia N.S.W. My Brother in law was a copper in Broken Hill then & he raised the alarm to the Wilcannia coppers to pass on the accident details. Nardia was in intensive care for awhile. It's amazing she was able to contact you about this story.

I think Red, that G is being a little polite there. “It didn’t magically crash” - I crashed it full-stop, and yes it’s only taken me 40 odd years. I can’t imagine what he went through when he got that news cos I know I wasn’t expected to pull through.

The reaction here is a bit different to some of what happened on Facebook Ducati sites, must be more 12-year-olds riding Ducatis compared to Laverda. Such a great story.

Thanks Guys

You have been true champions and I don’t even know you. I did have to set a young man straight yesterday evening on the Ducati site as it was getting a little one tracked and disrespectful. But I think we/he may have helped him come to a more respect understanding.

PS: you can’t put a mature head on young shoulders and I noticed some of you help him and others learn that lesson - much appreciation.

Thanks Guys 🙏

I like a good story, especially when it has a happy ending. Just shows positive things sometimes happen on the Internet. I was interested about the uncomfortable Guzzi Le Mans. Last summer a friend of mine discovered that another pal had a Guzzi 1100 Sport. The first friend said he had yearned after one for years, pestered him to sell, and eventually they agreed on a price. So before money changed hands, friend takes the Sport for a 10 minute ride. After he returns, he says it is the most uncomfortable bike he has ever ridden, its a young man's bike and it's given him a sore shoulder. All those years of dreaming, it's always worth a test ride.
