NICE ‘JOTA’ MATE !

Well I think you blokes are being a bit harsh! Laverdas are a pretty niche brand and if someone says “Jota?” to me I appreciate that at least they’re on the right track 😁
A bit like people saying Bantam every time they admire your Rocket Gold Star?
It shows how easy it is to indoctrinate. Hitler got it right.

You sure you weren't at Yellowstone Park? Only place I know of to find Geysers.

On the other hand ...... the geyser probably thought you were Paul Marx or someone of that ilk.

Jim
Geyser is an English colloquialism Jim!
Geyser = Bloke, Man, Guy and so on! But depending upon where you are it’s often spelt ’Geeza’.

I think the confusion is in the spelling Graham.
Oxford English Dictionary “Geezer” - a man, ie seems to be a decent geezer.
However just found it mentioned in The Urban Dictionary- “Gezzer”. Could describe a lot of Geezers on this forum perhaps ?

As far as I remember the Jarama started out originally as USA spec 3CL`s which came with left side gearchange and side reflectors to comply with local regs ....... Unsold ones were re directed or imported to the UK and badged up as Jaramas and sold at a ( sort of ) bargain price ........ Slaters tried to tempt you with a free Bell Star helmet thrown in , in an effort to shift them ( See the advert in Archive Stuff , somewhere ... ) ............. The thinking being that it is better to have a model name ( Mirage , Montjuic etc. ) ,than have a number or letter ( 3C , 3CL or whatever ) ............ people identify more readily with names ( Bonnies ; Thruxtons ; ` Blades etc. ......... like the way the LC became the Elsie , and the FS1E became the Fizzie , and the B100P became the Bloop .......

Eventually the Jarama name was applied to 3CL`s in general ( a bit like the way the Jota / Mirage names started to be used generally , sort of ...... ) .......

That`s what I reckon anyway .........

( I won`t mention footballer Paul Gascoigne , who was a Gazza , and a bit of a geezer as well ) ...... Or Jarotas , come to that ............

Found the ad. .......... 1980 so it`s not one of the USA refugees .........

Later to become John Goodman in 1917 when he anglicised his name due probably to anti German sentiment in the late 19th and 20th century in the UK.

Siegfried Bettmann , from Nuremberg , was elected as Mayor of Coventry 1913-14 ...... as well as starting the Triumph Motors Company , he was also
chairman of the Standard Motor Company ....... but at the outbreak of war relinquished both positions ......
At the request of the British Army , Bettmann oversaw the supply of 30,000 Triumph motorcycles for Army use during the course of the war .......

The War Office Army officer who made the initial request , Claude Holbrook , later joined Triumph when the war ended .......

I have had two Jaramas, my present one and one back in the 1980’s. As well as the LHS gearchange and side reflectors I think the original batch to the USA had black fork sliders. Most of the ones brought to the UK have lost the side reflectors, reverted to RHS gearchange and the sliders are now polished alloy. My present Jarama 5922 was manufactured as a 3CL in September 1977 and was one of 200 sent to the States that year badged up as a Jarama. 110 of these were brought unsold from the States to the UK by Slater Bros. in early 1979. Mine was allocated to dealers Murrays of Haverhill where it was first registered on 9th April 1979. At some point before my ownership it has had Jota silencers and 4C cams fitted.
