Somebody back in the early 1980's used to sell rob North frame/tank/fairing kits the for road going Trident triple and Bonneville twin. I always wanted one however they were expensive.
That may have been Anglo Bike , based at Beenham in Berkshire , England ................. The chap who ran the business went by the name of Peter Frost , I think ............... In a magazine article around that time , the writer went to a Laverda Club trackday with one of their Tridents .............. He said the Anglo Bike couldn`t quite keep up with the " fast wops " on the track , although someone there was suitably impressed enough to offer a straight swop for his Jota ....
There was another different article once about " dealing with dealers " ......... Which mentioned Anglo Bikes carrying out some engine work / hop up / tuning , on a standard T120 ........ Customer involved wasn`t happy as motor seized or went bang or something after a few hundred miles ....... In their defence Anglo Bike said they informed said customer that they thought the T120 had many more miles on it than appeared , and were not sure the state of tune he wanted would be a good idea , but he insisted that was what he wanted ..... so ................
The Anglo Bike Rob North - a - like Tridents had basically standard triple engines in most cases I believe ....... I have a road test of one somewhere , and performance figures are a slight ( but not much ) improvement on what you might expect from a well looked after standard bike .......
This makes me wonder about the Anglo Bikes frames , and whether they were direct copies ( with permission ? ) of the Rob North frames ....... Stan Shenton of Boyer of Bromley did actually acquire the rights for the Rob North frames in 1973 ........ Other people such as Martin Russell , and Peckett and McNab , produced frames which " incorporated " certain aspects of the North frames into the ones they produced ........ Maybe the Anglo Bike frames fell into the same category ................. Not sure what the position is today with producing copies .................. I think there is a company called Trident MCS in the West Midlands who have the rights to produce them ....... Rob North himself moved to California , not sure if he is still in business over there .........
