Atlas Questions

The sales blurb said this clutch lever was forged, I tried grinding it but too slow so I used my cordless drill on a slow setting and cleaned it up with the Damel. Later today I will temporarily fit it and see if it reduces the strength required and if I can still get neutral when stopped.

Got the oil drain spanner today so I could work out what size electrical conduit I want to add between the drain plug and the baseplate. I needed a 32mm dia conduit and for a giggle, I bought a 4-metre length of Orange Conduit, nothing shorter would sort it. This probably should be in the Getting Old Thread, obviously, 4m wasn't going to fit in my car so I held the conduit in one hand and stood on it expecting it to easily bend in half like the usual 20mm stuff I have handled before. Nope, the next thing I know it springs back and flicks me back and over onto the ground on my face. It had slightly more spring and strength than I expected. Luckily nothing was damaged in the fall. Pretty funny really. So I now have found the length required for the conduit and will fit it tomorrow. Really happy to get this done, the baseplate front fixing is also used for the crash bars, its incredibly fiddly and time-consuming to get at this drain plug, probably 20 minutes to get it all off and another 20 minutes to refit it for a simple oil change compared to 2 minutes after this is finished and much less mess.

Right next to the conduit are all the fittings for conduit, 32 mm conduit coupling…

Yes, but I wanted the thick and thin end of the actual conduit where they interconnect and they don't make a connection like that. I want the thin bit to go into the hole in the baseplate with the thick bit above acting like a cork in a bottle so it stays in place wedged against the oil filter plate and over the drain plug without conduit glue between the conduit and the bash plate. The conduit only cost $13 from the Electrical Wholesaler, I know it's nuts to buy a 4-mitre length of conduit and only use a 35mm piece but that's what it needed to be. The reason why it launched me off my feet the first time was I stomped on it like a Bull in a China shop. The second attempt was a bit slower and it bent and kinked in half pretty easily. One really weird thing I found while doing this, was the upper side of the plastic baseplate had some greasy crap on it so I gave it a spray with Carby Cleaner and wiped it down with a rag and noticed its grey colour suddenly change to yellow. That yellow is its base colour, the Factory must have spray painted these Platic Bash Plates grey to look like Aluminium. Who paints plastic, I have no idea why they just didn't mould them grey. That really surprised me.

In that case a 32mm plain to screw adaptor may have done the trick. Comes with locknut too. And I’d have sent you one for nuthin’ 😉

I really wanted Orange, it screamed out at me to be Orange. BTW my Office chair collapsed a few weeks back and after getting it welded twice I decided I needs a new one. So I went to the local Furniture shop and checked out their Office and Gaming Chairs and what do I see hiding in the corner but a really bright Orange Gaming Chair? It had Laverda written all over it. Plus it was the cheapest one there.

There's a photo opportunity here Vince.

I am a bit concerned about butting this conduit up against a hot oil filter plate on the bottom of the engine but we will see.

It will need some testing but I think my chair might need some Cartridge Emulators as it's made by Race Tec or so the sign says.
