Famous / Celeb Motorcyclists

Patrick Lord Lichfield was mentioned on the first list. On a recent trip to his old gaff, Shugborough Hall, I noticed photos of him on a BMW, Triumph plus others. A proper, keen biker it seems. Mostly the BMW though, so maybe nail him to that. Here he is with Brit Ekland and a Black Bomber.

Not quite a celebrity perhaps - but the chap on the right is Robert Lawrence - better known from Tumbledown. Once did a tour of southern India with him - rode in a sidecar and couldn’t wear a helmet as his head was a funny shape. Great character.

Just off on a tangent for a second ........ This reminds me that Christopher Plummer , who co starred with Julie Andrews in The Sound Of Music ( and apparently disliked the film , although it must have made him lots of money ) ....... said that working with Julie Andrews was like " being hit over the head with a hammer " ......... Always found that funny .........

I was thinking of including her in the original list .............. but then thought that not many people was automatically recognise her as a motorcyclist ....................... but again , that could apply to quite a few who are there .......
I could always include her favourite motorcycle as being a Brockhouse Corgi ...... ( Corgi , geddit ...... ? ... ) ......

What I found interesting ( or surprising ) , is that the fleet of Range Rovers that passed by made no attempt to warn them that they were about to encounter the King a little further up the track ..... I get the impression that the assumption is you can`t bubble wrap anyone , King or not , against all possibilities , and a certain amount of trust regarding the behaviour of individuals , and the acceptance of risk , is unavoidable ...... A bit like riding a motorcycle , really .......

Many in the entertainment industry are prevented, by contract, from riding motorcycles.
I remember Billy Connolly coming up to me, I had a Laverda patch on my denim jacket.
"Huv you really got a Laverda? I'd love wan o' those, but my manager won't let me ride motorbikes!" (Hence the trikes in the travel shows.)
He then quizzed me on all the details of what living with a Laverda was like. A genuinely nice guy and very keen on bikes.

Celeb customers I have had Jeremy Irons ( BMW, thoroughly nice bloke smokes like a two stroke) Julian Glover ( GPZ305 Bond/ Indiana Jones villain) David Brabham (V-Max Jack Brabhams Son and wazak) Tim “Lord”Harvey ( Touring car champion built him a Cosworth Fireblade- he was ok) Adam Woodyatt ( CBR600 - Eastenders Ian Beale - fitted an alarm - dull) Lewis Collins ( Bodie, tryed to get a bike off us cheap “ do you know who I am… 🥱 ) Patrick Lunt( BMW- news reader/ husband of Jan lemming - total tool and his headed notepaper looker like Patrick C#nt -so the printer didn’t like him either!) Nick Sanders ( round the world chap- turned up unannounced and wanted bike serviced for round the world trip next day- we We’re busy- threw toys out of pram! Triumph was a total shit box - bent with broken speedo?….scruffy bastard. ) Ted Dexter ( cricketer- I had his BMW, we put a chair on it and I rode all summer) JK & Matthew Pinsent bought bikes from us but I didn’t meet them.We also put a sidecar on a CF70 for R2D2 Kenny Baker- he knocked on the workshop door and we couldn’t see anyone through the window, being higher up the door than he was- Big Des thought it was kids fuckin about. When he knocked a third time Des kicked the door open flattening said famous midget…one final one , my despatch riding mate Warwick was a ewok in first Star Wars!

No Warwick Diamond, son of Peter Diamond who was stunt coordinator for films. Lewis Collins actually gave us the name Mr Cutts when enquiring about a bike- I think he was previously a hairdresser, so maybe an in joke.
