Cool Videos

Always good to learn stuff, my only personal experience on Lectron and I think it was a precursor called an EI Carb fitted to an early 250 KTM 2 stroke. It had a very flat-running engine. Virtually no hit on its expansion chamber. BTW I think Cripin was experimenting with Lectrons fitted to his Space Frame, but he had so many balls in the air with not much sussess.

An Ei Carburetor is a normally aspirated carby designed and built by Red Edmonston while he owned Edmonston Industries (Ei) and S&W. Red is the inventor of the Lectron carburetor which is very similar to the Ei.31 May 2013
Mate of mine ran 4 Lectrons on an Exup engined grass bike- float bowls weren’t suitable for methanol so ran a remote reservoir with flexible tubes running to bottom of main jet, so no actual float bowls fitted, looked really odd but worked. Your description of running flat is pretty much what I found when we went from Amal’s to Dellortos on my 500 Jawa- I suspect the Amal’s had a more blurred transition between jets than a more modern carb making feel softer, probably a bit richer .

Quentin, you know they'd look good on the SFQ!
Cam, the FCRs are so damned good I'd be a complete mug to lose them!

Lee and i tested some EIs on his SF (kitted out with SFC top end) on our dyno - no improvement noted so we whacked the Dells back on it. It was the smooth bores that attracted us.

Some really interesting stuff, but one thing I wondered, the access port is bigger than the windows so how did they make that?

Old enough to know better, people not staying left on blind corners and too close to the bloke crashing to avoid running over a fallen rider. So dumb.Luckily only bike damage, really lucky.

Dodgy riding by the guy on the 400. Assuming he's got the road to himself - coulda been much worse. Had a head on with a car doing that once when on a sandy track on my old 360 Yamaha. Luckily slow impact, squashed header.

A bit of a cheat this , but it is a still taken from a video .......

........ The queue to get to the summit of Mount Everest ........ Not sure if Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary would either laugh or cry if they saw this ......

Apparently clean up sessions to clear up all the Twix wrappers and Coca Cola bottles are frequently needed .....

Base camp is a garbage dump. Littered with empty oxygen cylinders and general trash. Nobody is willing to pay to have the Sherpas carry stuff down except for personal gear. It’s an absolute disgrace.

The whole need to 'conquer' Everest is a disgrace. I've really enjoyed reading books on various ascents, but Jon Krakouer's Into Thin Air really highlighted the out of control nature of commercial 'tourist' trips to the top for me. My partner is distantly related to George Mallory - now HE attempted it the hard way!!

............. Another from Bike 70 , this time the 1970 Bol at ( for the last time ) Montlhery .......... Laverdas finish 3rd and 6th .............. Race prepared 750S`s , from which the SFC750`s were spawned , I believe ......

Real racing Laverdas were painted white as we all know ....... Orange came later .... ;) .......

Laverda number 11 appears to have an enlarged longer range tank , whilst numbers 9 and 10 don`t ....... as far as I can make out ..... But then I could be wrong .......

750 Honda rider Michel Rougerie gained fame in the early `eighties for getting his elbow down in corners .......

.... Sorry Tippie , but it`s music again ..... I guess cine cameras back then didn`t record sound ..........

Mallory chose Sandy Irvine as his partner because although he had no climbing experience he was good looking & a keen footballer..
Hobnail boots, tweed jacket , cigars right we’ve got everything let’s go!

Reminds me of watching Rod & Valerie Taylor programmes on the fashion for shark hunting which littered the sea bed with dead sharks..
Valerie Taylor🤔 always a good watch!

... I`m replying to my own post here ( Is this a first ? .... maybe not ... ) .......

The more I look / think about this picture ( a still taken from a YouTube video ) , the more I begin to think it may be fake .......

I don`t doubt there are organised expeditions to the summit of Everest , but there is something about this that just doesn`t seem right ........

...Is it actually Everest ? ........ And would that number of people , even a few at a time , be able to be accommodated at the summit ( If that is indeed the summit we can see ) ........ and shouldn`t a large number of those we see be people making their way back down again ? .....

Maybe they`ve erected a giant slide on the other side , to get you back down again quickly and safely .......

I remember a story about " Yellow Boots " ( I think that was it ) ....... A group of Japanese climbers were attempting the climb back in the mid `nineties , when bad weather set in .....

One of them managed to find shelter on a ledge , but succumbed to the conditions and perished there .....

His body was left there ......... There was no point in others putting their own safety at risk in trying to retrieve it , and he became a kind of reference point on one of the routes up , being clearly visible .......

...... " Two hundred metres after leaving camp XYZ , you`ll spot Yellow Boots on your left " ........ that sort of thing ...........

Not sure if he`s still there ( or visible ) now ........

Google 'images of queue to everest' and there are many different pics showing it most probably isn't a fake.

Terrible, selfish behavior IMHO. It will of course get worse, in these days of self entitlement and self indulgence.

The picture is not fake https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-48401491. It was a wake up call for a lot of people.
It was taken by a Sherpa on his way back down, during a record short time doing all the peaks, which was covered in a documentary. It was intended to promote the abilities of the Sherpas who apparently were often overlooked and taken for granted.
It didn't take the Taylors long to switch sides, and she is still diving with sharks, well into her eighties now.

got to admit when I saw it I thought it might have been doctored - there's a similar pic in Into Thin air but, crazy, but way less crowded than this pic. It really is insane.
