SF2 in auction UK

This ‘74 reg SF2 is in forthcoming auction, A vehicle check reports it as first registered in April 2000, can anyone explain this please?

I’m always wary of shiny bikes in an auction. Thinking shiny is there to distract.

Thanks
Sean

That makes sense thanks. The free wwe sites for checking a reg say it was not imported, but they must be incorrect. Does anyone happen to know how this affects exemption from MOT and VED? The data shows the vehicles as 50 years old, but it also shows it as first registered in 2000. It’s being sold with an expired MOT and 8 months of tax left to run, which implies exemption depends on date of registration.

That is very pretty w nice touches such as the seat covering and buffed yokes, but does “needs light commissioning” mean it doesn’t run?
Sounds like sales-speak to me for: “looks great but runs like a sackful of wet arseholes” but maybe I’m being cynical… I’m always suspicious of people selling stuff that “only needs finishing touches” etc, because if it was that easy then surely they would have done it.

Hi Sean, whereabouts in Shropshire are you ? Wherever you are can’t be far from me anyhow. Perhaps we could meet up sometime. I visit various meets / caffs in the area and also help organise our annual Marches Moto Italia at The Powis Arms, Lydbury North. Our paths may have crossed ?
Cheers
Steve.

Thanks All. I plan to view the bike, see if the auctioneers will fire it up.

I’m just outside Much Wenlock Steve, and the meet at Ledbury can only be about 40 minutes from me, and it would be good to meet up if it ever stops raining. I did view an R100/S in Bucknell about 10 years ago.

Let us know what you find- I've always wondered if auctioned bikes have the option to be started or not, but I'm guessed they're usually only displayed as non-running.

We have a monthly meet last Sunday of the month at The Watering Hole Cafe, Aymestrey. 1st Monday 5pm at Clungunford village hall. Most weeks I’m up at Poolehall Cafe. nr the old Quatford Cafe. Regularly at Sleap and Shobdon Airfield Cafes. That’s a selection quite near to you. Hope to meet up. As you say weather been crap recently with Bucknell and surrounding areas hit bad by floods last Wednesday / Thursday.

Certainly shiny enough. I agree, why would you put a bike that looks like that up for sale needing just a few small things to run properly? Must have had arthritis, needing a rubber cover for the centre-stand handle of the easiest bike ever to get onto the stand. Anyone else got discs with such massive holes? I have ridden a few with that and they shudder when braking. New carbs with rubber mounting too.

The SF2 went for 6.5k GBP. It was very shiny and had paperwork re engine work. But they would not let me start it, turn the motor, or do any inspection that meant hands on. Probably a good buy though.

It was my bike and worth way more than what it went for…. It was recommissioned by Laverda Scotia and if you know Laverda in the uk then Keith is as good as it gets so please don’t post derogatory comments about my old bike if you don’t know anything about it….. I know for sure the new owner has got a great bike for no money so I say with gritted teeth well done to them you win some you lose some and on this one I lost my shirt…..
