I'm looking for an original side stand for a LAVERDA 1000 3C/3CL. Does anyone have one lying around? I know that it wasn't a good design and that there are better solutions today, but I still need an original and complete side stand. PM or email to: gert.schnoegl@netway.at

Ciao, Gert

Hi, no I didn't find one so far.
The side stand on the triples was introduced in 1977/78. But a side stand on my friends 1000 3C would make it easier for him to handle it.
Ciao, Gert

Probably favourite, if it's a right hand gearchange, would be the ex-Jota Joe one.
I believe Grant Duguid has them.

I think I have a std one, but it's been modified a lot to improve its function, I cannot remember if it's longer or shorter but I was trying to make it more stable but failed big time. Even then it was complete crap. My favourite memory was using it with camping gear on the back coming home from a Philps Island GP and it tipping over all by itself just as I walked away from the bike in the main street of some Victorian town at lunchtime in front of a big crowd. Its position is so far forward is about as unbalanced as you could make it. The more recent ones are 1000% better.

I have several Laverda side stands, I know a couple of them are off 1200's so they should fit a 3CL. If you can wait I will look next weekend. I'll take some pics.

Meanwhile I know that there are two versions of the side stand: One for Ceriani with 19,5 cm and one for Marzocchi with 21,5 cm length. My friend will need the Ceriani version for his 1000 3C. Ciao, Gert

I have an original Laverda side stand on my 78 1200. It is of very poor design, it is inherently unstable and it is difficult to deploy as it extends way forward and my foot doesn't extend that far forward. My 1200 has a fantastic setup with the easy-to-use centre-stand so the side stand is rarely used.
Sidestands, it would be hard to beat the 'Bushman' designed kit, love it.

The plot thickens. According to Red* (@Redax) this foot peg/ gear change setup is aftermarket or non- standard, I think he put it. See pic. The "scottish"? origin midmount plate & sidestand he has in stock would need serious mods to work. Centre stand a problem too I believe. Would appear rear sets is the only way to overcome the problem, sadly my broken bones will not handle the riding position over distance any more.
It's worth trying a forward mount unit methinks despite the shoddy design ... anything out there? Note that a set of Koni shocks, Type 7610 are in place (look new) so I imagine the longer 21.5cm length would be in the ball park.
* Red had the 3C in the workshop for a couple of days. Talk about a legend ... I picked the bike up running rough, would not idle .. sounded like my 20HP V twin Intek, Greenfield Ride-On :) test ride was a total riot. Red handed it back all sorted, a little lumpy & now needs running in given the timing was out 18 degrees! Go figure.

Factory US spec LH shift/RH brake. Looks a lot like the afterthought that it is...

Tx for the reply, I think - piet. Engine # - 3275. So your thinking this setup may have been a US spec conversion or it's a ring in? (apologies, total Laverda virgin, think steep learning curve apart from a quick run on a Jota circa 1991). My regards to the vaterland ... former resident in 1994/5 .. Tübingen, Schwabe. Where there is a will and need there is a way. I added another mounting plate in front of my peg mount to get some adjustability, it's much harder than you might think to get a big range of possible positions. When you take into account bolt thickness and position what I achieved instead of the ability to position the pegs exactly where I wanted them was a lowering of the pegs 15mm but that made the bike much more comfortable. It allowed less hip restriction. Long story short, those Scottish side stand kits are so much better it's worth doing whatever it takes to end up with a comfortable peg position and both working side and centre stands.

No, definitely is. I've come across a couple, even here in Germany. Cannot imagine why one would persevere with such a set-up when not mandatory. I fitted one of these for a customer a few years back.

Yeah, Tübingen, nice little town.
