1200 for sale

I will probably pop up next week to have a look at it and see if it can. Be heard running difficult/ risky to value without any history, had one 40 years ago loved it when it was good.

Had a look yesterday in Pickering, it was jammed in so tight it was hard to get a decent look at the bike.
It looked to have been ridden to auction as there was fresh salt corrosion on the fork sliders. The stanchions were corrosion free and looked in good nick
Generally tidy, couldn't tell if it was CDI or btz ignition.
Paintwork looked ok and reasonable for age.
Everything there seemed overpriced!

Sold for 6,200 plus fees

Was that a fair?

Yes it was in terms of what someone was willing to pay but in terms of the general market?

Theyre a good bunch at Mathewsons Ive known them personally for years I also know the telly brigade having worked with them at my old firm Yorkshire television ( they all worked there at some time or other. Paul at Mathewsns promised me a load of welding on my Volvo TP21 but since the start of the telly prog he has never had the time. pity).

If it is maybe some kudos to it, but it is a 1977 model with the 1200T handlebars didn't the first Mirages appear in 78? Were there just 3 blue or red ones built before they went green?

To be made in 77 it could only have been a slater mirage and with alot of differences to that bike. Mine came in late 77
I would guess thats a late 78 model and as its 1st uk registration was in 2006, I would guess its not a slater spec mirage. But it looks a nice bike, sold at a very fair price?

The volvo sugga or Tp21 is so much more than any Land rover, built by Volvo as an off road radio car in the fifties, they only produced 70 or so. So its rarer than hens teeth. Standard engine was a 3.9 litre straight six petrol lump with air locking diffs from the cab. Bit thirsty its fair to say mine had been fitted with a Perkins 'JAP 6' 3.9 litre six cyl deisel loads of torque Hi Lo box and four wheel drive all selectable, the running gear is huge compared to a Landrover the car weighs 3700 KG huge diff located by a huge droplink to the chassis so as not to tear off the front axel its much revered in off road circles
Now becoming very expensive in the £30 -£50 K region for a good complete one parts are generally unobtanium and that makes owning one very frustrating as you just cant buy the things you need to restore one properly. I suffered for years with non standard seats and engine ( though the Perkins did have Power steering, a real boon.) Eventually sold it to a chap in Devon for twice what I paid for it, Brakes are also a nightmare no servo and no bits available realistically. Really enjoyed owning it and wish I still had it But (don't really) It paid for a lot of my Mirage / Alpina the pic is after I had some front springs remanufactured at great expense fitting was hard work.

The 'bars look correct for a Mirage (ie same as 1200T). What other differences do you refer to (just curious)? When was the switch from thin to thick web wheels (or was it the other way around!!)?
Indeed, it did sell at a very fair price: would have been interested myself if I'd known sooner...

Green Mirages had a shorter flatter bar not the same as the high wide and handsome 1200Ti believe they came off the Alpino
Not sure about the few pre green ones
