Really early 1000 SFC's I think were built with Smith instruments laying on the shelf for almost 20 years. As some of them had issues due to being stored, (and because Uwe Witt did not like them I think...), the factory switched to the later white ones.

The one for sale must have been one of them being B reg Richard had one on a stand at the 85 ILOC laverda rally unfortunately I bought one lol

so let me get this sorted in my head.
the final carnation of the triple.
crank bearings sorted .... tick.
corsa engine... tick...but last ones had dubious parts quality .....using rejected parts to shift stock..
some clocks were Smith's and not reliable.
so the final carnation was like tossing a count to see if you got a good one ?

1979 to 1980.
The valuable... supposedly triples.
Crank bearing issues.
Big valve head and valve, piston collision...
Oh.
Quirky. Remember that.
And when a nice rga jota turns up for sail and such comments ss it's only worth £5k...
Well it's a far better built bike.F##k site more reliable.

Shame on you Seags for questioning Laverdas quality control, you can still lovingly build a bike out of shite parts, Ive still got the 1000 SFC the RGS is a better bike but I wouldn’t change it for a Corsa or RGS and 79 to 80 bikes are only valuable to ill informed

Yes but lets not forget that most of the surviving bikes have more than likely had some re engineering work done to ensure they have continued on, and not every bike had these engineering flaws.

@Seags

Every Laverda model has its own charm and your preference is mostly a personal affair.

Value is not in polished looks but in important mechanical work and upgrades which have been carried out and even more importantly by who.

Be prepared to pay more. A technically correct machine needs to have overall preference. Don't go blind on looks.

This is of course always the case with 40+ old metal

Yes, but look what happens when a bike comes up for sale.
Colour and general cleanliness seem to be the most discussed subjects, followed by the asking price of an unknown quantity.
Don't mention the fact that the frame could be bent and the engine a time bomb.

And your so right. The mention "restored by a professional " always makes me smile. There aren't many about.

Paul
