Hi all ,i have just purchased a 1000 3c laverda 1981 and it has a damaged r/h/s crankshaft thread,as in it’s been broken off so there’s no nut holding rotor on .any ideas of where I could have this repaired or is it a complete motor strip and send crank off to a laverda crankshaft specialist.
many thanks for any help that can be given to this newbie

I should think that you'll need a complete rh crank bit and that you'll likely find it with one of the UK Laverda boffins.

only way to fix that is to replace the web itself which means engine out and stripped
if the thread has been broken off then the shaft itself must be bent as well which is not going to do your ignition any favors

though the shaft end where the thread is is not that hard as I have drilled and tapped that shaft to M10 x 1.25 on one of our race engines and on the other race engine I machined a 19mm hex on it, so we could use a remote starter
so it would be possible to do a dodgy repair on it by hand drilling a suitable hole into the end and tapping it to whatever size and then use a machined washer to hold the rotor on

Keith in Glasgow at Laverda Scozia is the person you need to talk to, he builds Laverda cranks and should have spare crank webs
if he doesn't I have a few in stock but am in Australia

Hopefully goi to get it up on my bench at the weekend and dial gauge the crank end, if there’s a runout I’ll have to strip it .was just looking at scozia’s website and he seems to be the man for lavy cranks but he’s a long way from me in London. Would also love to know how this has happened as there’s no impact damage.
many thanks for your reply

Keith did an engine for me and I can assure you that France is even further from his place than London.
Welcome to the globalised Laverda world.

Buy an unknown, used Laverda... feed the piggy bank in huge doses, quick!! Gonna need it.

Shouldn't a 81 model have the ND alternator with a bolt holding the rotor?

Townsend846, I won't say this is a rough group but the honesty here can be brutal! Those who have responded are the most knowledgeable and experienced in the Laverda realm. The "while you're at it" comment is a reality as once you have everything apart you will find it prudent follow their advice on further items needed. The saying "Do it right or do it over" really applies where Laverda's are concerned.

Yes I agree ,really like what redax has said and hope the crank has not been impact damage and some idiot has used an impact gun and damaged the crank thread buy over zealous use of the trigger
