750 Bosch Voltage Regulator adjustment

On my initial test ride, the voltage at the battery spiked up over 15 volts, at higher speeds. I turned the headlight on and that fixed the problem, but reading about the bosch VR, seems it is adjustable. All new wiring loom, setup is standard as per green book wiring diagram for the SF2. Has anybody played with adjusting the voltage DOWN, as most of the blurb is talking about getting more voltage.

I found it almost impossible to find an auto elec who could properly adjust the original regulator, they took the reg and got paid for adjusting it but I had weak charging. Finally found a marine auto elec who said he couldn't adjust it without it attached to the actual genny it was to be used with, so I got that to him as well. Result perfect charging. Interesting he also said he pulled 22 amps out of the genny, he said the only difference to the VW 22 amp one was that it didn't have openings in the end plate for cooling. Trying to adjust it on the bike by bending the contacts and stuff would be very hard, revving the engine and loading up the electric system while trial and erroring it. I have since gone the electronic reg way and after trying three different ones by far the best unit is the genuine Bosch electronic replacement that looks like the original.
 
Hi tippie is that the Bosch re55?

Found a thread from 2016 saying Sachse no longer available? It’s on their website say reg5 for dc, reg5 a. What is the difference? Do you have the specs for yours hooksey? 111 euros, not cheap. Says it’s for single phase alternators, generator not mentioned.

The DVR4 replacement is here - you need the DVR4N-12-11A. It works well and can be hidden inside the original Bosch can.
The solid state Bosch replacement part number is F026T02200. Google is your friend to find one at the best price. It is a replica of the original item in appearance.

I use both and they have been reliable so far. I'll come back and report again for Paul in another 46 years or so. Just to be clear, the original component if rubber mounted will do the job until it doesn't. It is an electromechanical device that will deteriorate over time.
 
Hi.... the ordinary battery voltage with a lead-corrosive Yuasa battery (which utilizes virgin lead plates) will run somewhere in the range of 13.2 and 13.6 volts when running at 2500 RPM with the lights off, contingent upon the age of the battery (less as is ages). On the off chance that a Yuasa no-upkeep battery (at times called an "AGM" type) is plunked into a similar framework, the battery voltage will ascend to about 13.5-14.0 volts under similar conditions.
 
2 coils in the unit, cutout coil ( big wire) and the regulator coil ( small wire). Points gap on the regulator coil should be 10-15 thou. Mine was at 8 thou. Now at 14 thou, charging 14.3 v at 3 grand with the lights off. Fixed

From my experiences the Boche Regulator Dynamo system is just plain SHIT - Yes you can live with it but requires constant attention and expect a dead battery any time.

Dynamo, I had one where the bearings died. At the top of the Grand Saint Bernard between the Val d'Aosta and Switzerland.
The regulators have never caused me any trouble.

Interesting feedback, Ron. My SF1 system did me proud for 27 years until i fitted an alternator. In 150,000k the reg never needed touching and the genny needed a wire resoldered after floodwaters in outback Queensland caused a loss of charge. I've still got the genny and the reg.

Maybe your SF0 was a lemon?
