About my Jota 81's

You're right ...

0.15 mm was free but it forced to 0.20 mm. I thought that in these values, it is not necessary to change the settings, but I check again in 2 000 or 3 000 km per security. Surfaces A / C (camshaft) and push (valve tappet? Is this word correct?) are in very good condition

My worry is that the top of the original medium Inlet Camshaft See center is broken (Once before, I had to over tighten the cylinder head cover. Damn!). The captive nut is crimped correctly, but the assembly has been carefully

I used this time of mechanical to install the side stand. It does not inspire me at all   :embarrassed:. Someone does a board change?

Best regards

Xavier

PS :  In fact, I love the mechanics of Laverda. These are really great motors. When I'd be too old to ride on my Jota, I would put the engine prominently in my living room   :D

Xavyam,do yourself a huge favor and get one of those kawasaki sidestand mounting system, brilent bit of gear,it even works on the soft grassy ground, easy fit and super safe,1000% better than both Laverda stands

Oh la la ...!

Even 10% better enough for me. It is true that the original is catastrophic!  :D

What is the model of Kawasaki, which has a side stand so great?

The upside down metal cup that the camshaft pushes on and pushes the valve down (you suggested "push") is called either the "tappet" or "cam follower". Laverdisti also call it a "bucket".

Ken

Ken, thank you for that clarification  :big thumb:

Understanding a foreign language is one thing, understanding and knowledge of technical terms is another much more difficult. Perhaps that after 10 years on this forum, my vocabulary will be full ...

http://laverdapedia.com/forum/index.php?topic=40882.msg71811#msg71811 is the thread that will tell you who to contact for the bracket and which Kawasaki sidestand(s) you can use. I have one, it works great, but I'm a centrestand man. You can only use either the Kawasaki sidestand or the Laverda centrestand, I use the centrestand (the Harley riders occasionally say something about it, I guess they can't put their bikes on theirs).

Ken

Hi Ken

I use both the sidestand and centre stand on my Jota (using one of Jim's brackets and a Kawasaki side stand). I had to do a slight modification - chop the foot lever off the centre stand weld it back on in a slightly different location, but it works fine.

Cheers,
Cam

Both Kawasaki side and Laverda centre-stand work on my right gear change factory rear set 3C,although very very soon the lifting tang on the worlds greatest centre-stand is getting cut off and welded flat to the ground and made as long and as rigid ed as possible, that is before my right foot explodes from heaving it up,did I mention how much i love the Kawasaki stand.

Attached is a picture of the modified centre stand. I moved the stand's foot tang forward (or up the stand) about an inch to allow the side stand to swing down without fouling it. Doesn't seem to affect the usability of the centre stand.

Cheers,
Cam

G'day Rob

Yeah, I'm getting more conservative (or wiser?) as I get older. I generally leave a bit in reserve. You never know what's around the corner. Only last Sunday I came around a bend on a nice bit of country road and hit some loose gravel. It all got a bit squirmy for a moment. If I'd been on the edge of the tyre I'd probably have ended up in the greenery at the side of the road - as one of my riding mates actually did!

Cheers,
Cam

C'mon Cam.
Once a scratcher, always a scratcher....

If I felt like doing a bit of scratching, the Jota certainly wouldn't be my preferred mount. The tyres are a bit old and hard and it doesn't handle well enough. Hit a decent bump in a corner and it bucks and weaves all over the road. I feel much safer on my Ducati.

Cheers,
Cam

Hi all

Since my last message in early March, working on my bike advanced

On your advice and Jean-Louis Olive's one, I finally mounted a DMCII

Before that, I spent my carburetors ultrasound and controlled valve clearance

It was easy to install and connect, I realized that the ignition who was on my bike was already a Moto Witt (with 2 pick-up). The connections are the same, just that DMC has a new cell ... and it works!

I brought my bike in my home this morning. I chose the curve 10 (curve A) on DMCII.

Transfigured ... 120 km / h at 3000 rpm, 140 at 4000. Constant acceleration, taken from 2,000 rpm in 5th, and it grows stronger.

So a big thank you again to you all and JLO for your thoughts and valuable informations. Reggie3CL thank you to the manufacturing plan sidestand bracket found on the forum. I made it with a friend

It remains to remove the strobe lamp and Carbtune Manometer to be quite ok

I wish that after rewarding encounters on the pages of this forum, we meet together on the road on a motorcycle race or anywhere we like the bikes

Regards

Hello all

I'm back with a technical question about choosing the good size of the tyres

I change my Dunlop GT501 for BT45 (I've never felt comfortable with the GT501 ...)

Actually I have 100/90/18 front and 130/80/18 rear (original rims)

I hesitate with the following sizes with BT 45 for my JOTA 180?:

front 100/90/18  -  rear 130/80/18

front 100/90/18  -  rear 120/90/18

front 110/80/18  -  rear 130/80/18

I have a fluid driving, type fast tourism, but sometimes I drive very fast

Do you have any suggestions or advice

Regards

Xavier

I think you have your front and rear sizes mixed up there.

Is it a 180 or a 120 triple?

On my 1200 I had 100/90 x 18 front and 120/90 x 18 rear Bridgestone BT 45 tyres.
The rear looked very narrow on the standard rim and I was thinking of upgrading to a 130/80 x 18 BT 45 next tyre change, but sold the bike first.

I think BT 45 tyres as quite narrow compared to other makes (at the same inidcated tyre size).

Then again so many people recommend to stay on the original tyre sizes for triples.
I would stick to a 100/90 at the front though.

Hello Grant

You're right, I mixed the front and rear. I made the correction on my request for advice, and restated that my bike is a 180 triple

As you say, The BT 45 tyres as quite narrow. I think that the BT 45 in 130 wide would help better manage the bike when cornering, but it is 80 (130/80/18)

In front the 100/90/18 would give stability and rear 130/80/18 a reactivity with a better floor contact

I think the mix of front in 90 (100/90/18) and rear in 80 (130/80/18) is correct but it is perhaps not a good idea.

I remain open to advice on the best choice (even if the tire it is in the head  8))

Cheers

Xavier

Yes but it is 80% of 130 so will be a similar circumference to a 120 with a 90% aspect ratio.

If it was me I would try the 100/90 and the 130/80 together.
My 100/90 and the 120/90 BT 45 combination did not, to me, feel right or look right.

Hi Xavier, I am sure you are right about it being mostly 'in the head'!  The GT501 is quite a pointed profile, almost like the TT100.  Many years ago there were two groups of riders, those who loved TT100's and those who prefered the rounded Avon Roadrunners.  It was just what you were used to.  A friend loves GT501 tyres on his Corsa, he always was a Dunlop fan.  I love Pirelli on my Jota, and always used the rounded profile tyres on big bikes.

I have recently found that a 110/80 front has made the bike feel much more 'planted' going into fast corners.  It used to feel vague with a 100/90 but still went round OK.  I use a 120/90 rear, I once had a 130/80 on this bike with a 100/90 front and it felt so nasty I got rid before it was even half worn.  I have never tried Bridgestones though.  Just another opinion!
