About my Jota 81's

Hi,

I have always thought the BT45 to have a 'square' contact area and more suited to 'touring' along US straight-aways (perhaps not best suited to European twists).  However a friend of mine (Triumph T100 rider) has just changed his 4-year old BT45s for a new BT45 set, and is very impressed (and fast in the twisties!).  I think Bridgestone may have recently made the BT45 more "European", and perhaps our "old" guidelines need to be revised?

Fyi, I am an "Avon man", but I do believe Bridgestone have done something to the BT45 recently that may have a bearing on our past experience judgements.

Hello all

Thanks for your advices

As Nick said, I'm looking for a rounded profile tire. This is why I get rid the GT501 to bring the BT 45. The height of the bead also induces the behavior of the bike. This is why I hesitate on the right combination

Nick
I'm like you, with a preference for rounded profile tires.  It gives a good feeling in corners.
What do you mean when you speak of planted 110/80
Apparently you do not appreciate 130/80

Geoff
The BT 45 has a very good reputation here too, as well as in the dry that in the wet, and a very good performance while cornering. The Avon is also a very good tire. But I'm lucky, I have special prices on BT 45

If I want to stay on "standard", it would
be 110/80 - 130/80  or be 100/90 - 120/90. Because as I said above, the mixed 90 to the front and 80 on the rear, would perhaps not the right choice. When I bought this bike, she had Pirelli with this mixed. It was not bad ...

Hi Xavier - don't worry about mixing 80 profile with 90 profile, it is more to do with the width and the rolling radius of the fitted tyre in the narrow range of sizes available to us.  By 'planted' I mean it feels more like a 750 going into corners!  In other words, it used to feel a little vague, light, lacking feedback, did not give me a confident feeling when transitioning into a corner.  With the 110/80 it does not seem to lose the normal positive feeling as you tip it in and this has helped me go into corners faster and brake later.  No, I'm no racer these days!

I used to use 130/80 rears on big Kawasakis which I used to ride pretty hard and used the full width plus stands, exhausts, boots, etc.  But I didn't find it suited the Jota so well.  I have a feeling I measured one up fitted to the rim and it was pulled in so that it wasn't much fatter than a 120/90.  But if you use one maybe you will find it suits you - it is just that the 110/80 and 120/90 suits my riding at the moment which is mostly solo with minimal luggage (tank bag for overnights).  I love the Pirelli Sport Demons which are well priced here and are developing a growing following from what the tyre guy tells me.

Cheers

Nick
