Advice on original connectors and wiring

Thanks Piet. They look very useful. How or where can they be sourced?
Original Harley Davidson spare parts, used on almost all '90s models. Connectors are 2, 3, 4, 6, 9 and 12 pin, the bridges are x2, x3, x4. The bridges are thin enough to be able to extend them as required. Don't know if they're still available though. Trot down to your local Hog dealer. Otherwise, there's a huge H-D aftermarket industry catering for obsolete models.

Afternoon all. The rewiring of the SF1 is going well and I’m looking to get properish horns back on picture below. Did they originally connect up in the headlight or in the guts somewhere? The current horn was an aftermarket replacement wrongly wired with no relay getting its negative from the horn button wire. The proper one looks like I need positive on the button assuming that’s wired properly.

definitely a nicer noise anyway!!

SF1s didn't have wiring in the headlight, but under the tank. But if yours has been converted this way, it doesn't really matter where you run your wires to. Original Lucas switchgear had a different elec circuit for the horns (from memory, the + carried through the switch to operate the relay, whereas the ND horn button simply earths the relay) ... if you understand the principle of relays you'll have no trouble working it out.

In any case, those gruesome coloured squash connectors have no business being on a motorcycle...
Totally agree, Piet. I bought a really good quality crimper and wire stripper and never looked back. Those plastic insulated horrors elicit instant dread in me when I see them on ANY bike I work on. Pure evil.
Haha. Nice to see those horrid things getting the comments they deserve.

I hate the awful things. One of the first things I do when I buy an old bike is tidy up DPO's wiring alterations, which includes replacing those shitty coloured plastic things that seem to be on every old classic bike I've ever bought. Gawd knows why they're so bloody ubiquitous.

What pisses me off is that virtually NO auto aftermarket joints stock decent brass crimp terminals any more. ALL they have are those awful fecking things. I will use them for earth eyelets after removing the shitty coloured plastic and adding several layers of shrink - if brass items are unavailable.

The decent ones are often rated for mains voltage so an electrical trade merchant is often your best bet (at least in NZ 😉) and they have the best heatshrink too 👍

I'm committing a bit of heresy in some eyes and going Moto Gadget on my SF2 restoration. I love the simplicity and functionality, plus all relays is a bonus. Shock and horror, it's also getting a Moto Gadget Motoscope Classic speedo. I'll end up with a spare wiring system, relayed horns and lights, and an accurate set of gauges. I've come across a few Moto Gadgeted bikes, and really like what I see.
