1978 Formula One TT ....... Mike Hailwood wins after making up the time advantage on Phil Read`s Honda , and just sitting there until the Honda went bang as a result of Phil`s efforts to stay in front ....... The Ducati displays better timing by going bang just as it crosses the finishing line ......

Three Laverda triples finish within 3 minutes of each other ...... also in front of Dennis Trollop on a 500 cc Yamaha , and P . Davies ( our Pete Davies ? ) , on a Ducati .......

1954 AJS Porcupine ....... Supercharging in Grands Prix was outlawed after WW2 , so that`s gone , cylinders are now at 45 degrees instead of horizontal , so has the prickly cylinder finning which gave it it`s name in the first place .....

Les Graham was the first ever Moto GP World Champion ( in 1949 ) on a Porcupine .......

Not as impressive as the pre - war , water cooled , super - charged , V4 AJS ...... but still good enough to become World Champion .......

1978 road test of an Alpino S ........ the report mentions taking the bike down the M5 from Birmingham to Bristol for a dealer test day .......... ( Must have been Dennis ....... I think he had opened shop in `78 ) ........

This test day was a Saturday .... I remember pulling up behind this bike at some lights on the Gloucester Road , just by chance ......guessed it was probably some punter out on a test ride , you can usually tell ....... I was still on my T160V , I just recognised it for what it was , and that was it ........

I was wondering about these results as they didn’t tally with the info I have. True several people started the race on a Laverda triple, but neither my friend John Hammond (Moto Guzzi) and the Swiss rider Max Nothinger (Kawasaki) we’re in among them.
However, PK Davis was on a triple and not a Ducati.
