Are Bunnings taking over the world?

There used to be a home-grown hardware supplier in Tasmania with shops all over the state and a good range of stuff. But Bunnings has strangled them out of the market. Their last store closed a couple of weeks ago.

Bunnings is almost a monopoly. The first thing I learned as an apprentice was you always asked for Trade Price, that was always 10% off. Not at Bunnings unless you have an account. I was always being told Bunnings had everything if you wanted cheap Chinese knockoffs yes they do but there is plenty of specialised Building gear they don't have and never even heard off. My go-to in Sydney is Hardware and General, the shop blokes are not part-time Uni students and that helps heaps. All the other specialist's proper Builders Hardwear have gone the way of the DODO.

I agree Vince, they sure have a lot of cheap shit. They stock a lot of domestic electrical components i.e. GPOs, switches, cable. The stuff is crap. Glad I don't do domestic electrical. It's really cut-throat amongst domestic sparkies and peoples homes are getting fitted out with this rubbish. Fortunately, there's still plenty of specialist electrical wholesalers about.

Gps speedo is 80mm so i could mount it inside a standard lav housing.  Comes with an antenna, etc, was about $80, not sure if it works yet, got to finish the rewire first.  Work is flat out, no rest for the wicked.  Boss sold 5 new bikes today, crazy times!

So much for me thinking the showroom looked a bit bear. Maybe people are thinking to buy a new bike before the world ends.

Well, if you get to NZ in the next few weeks - most unlikely I know - Bunnings ain't open. Categorised at present as non - essential.
But there's a movement on social media to pressure the govt into allowing them to open.

Short story. Mate works there. Some of you will remember his work - the little Honda powered "SFC Replica" posted here yonks back.
At the time of the ChCh quakes he noted the high rate of return of failed  generators - Chinese of course.
Went to management and got them to stock real generators even if they were dearer as it was good PR...

Poor bastard is on the rapid promotion track now and runs a department.
