ASI Laverda 500 International Meeting

I don`t recall to have seen any thread about this event so far. The lack of attention on this event here on the Forum surprises me, as it appears to become a great event for all Laverda enthusiasts and 500 owners in particular. I really should be there with my 500 Formula, but unfortunately family arrangement prevents me from travelling to Italy that weekend.

I wish you, who are participating a fantastic event, and hope you will share a lot of pictures and videos to us poor souls that can`t be there.

Best regards
Preben

Andy Jessop the Manx Mog is going and taking bikes, well, I mean, he has 500 oil in his blood! how do I know?, he will be stopping off here and overnighting in his camper on route. That night a 2am, I am planning a fox drive with arc lights 10 guns and a few dead rabbits as bait, shouldnt be too noisy, its at least 2 meters to the fields and woods, he probably wont even know.

Most forum members are likely triple owners and not very interested in other bikes, particularly 500s which have always been a marginal sector.

Yesterday I was at the circuit Croix en Ternois in France together with the Tim Parker AMA Laverda Harris racer and a group of the Dutch Orange Army.
Unfortunatly my fast engine broke, so I build today a standard engine for to go to ASI thursday.

Wooow, two of the Harris framed 500!!! That’s a very rare sight! Ciao, Gert

Day 2 at Varano and we have been lucky with the weather so far, a bit of rain overnight yesterday evening but otherwise a mixture of sunshine and scattered clouds.
Generally things have gone okay on the circuit, but unfortunately a couple of Laverda spills.
The circuit is quite a tricky circuit to ride as it’s quite narrow and a lot of very tight corners, some in quite quick succession. I had hoped to go out on the 500 first on Friday as it would have been the better choice than the 750 for learning the way the circuit goes, but some partially blocked pilot jets put paid to that idea.
A slightly snatchy Formula race bike on (cold) slicks wasn’t the ideal baptism, but we survived in one piece. Managed to get the 500 out okay for this morning’s session and for the veeery slooow Laverda parade lap at lunchtime. Mostly ridden in first gear, which wasn’t entirely to the bike’s liking and occasionally in second.
Overall a very good event so far with lots of 500 Laverda. 😄

Unfortunately, a further Laverda spill this afternoon, this time a member of the family (but not PL), requiring a bit of bandaging and a large ice pack. However, Steph is in a bit more discomfort as he broke his collar bone in his spill yesterday. Both are very annoyed with themselves for making silly mistakes.
Hopefully tomorrow will be spillfree, but there are fewer chances as we only have sessions in the morning before the event finishes around lunchtime.

Another little anecdote from the weekend so far. On Thursday evening after we eventually were allowed into the paddock, usual race circuit chaos, and had unloaded, Werner decided to take his little pit bike for a ride and came back wheelying the bike all through the paddock. I told him you will get yourself banned, and we both laughed. Sure enough, yesterday he got his ban, not for doing wheelies in the paddock but repeating the antic all along the start finish straight, in front of the grandstand, during the scooter and 50cc 'Parade', despite an official furiously waving at him to stop. Werner of course chose to ignore him. Needless to say, said official was waiting for him when he came in off the circuit and unceremoniously ripped the wrist band off Werner, and sternly announced, "no more riding for you this weekend."
Despite a certain amount of pleading and apologies the official remained adamant, you're banned. However, Werner 'appealed' to the head of the ASI, taking Irena along as female support, i.e. flash her eyelids etc, and after showing a bit of contrition and agreeing not to do it again, he relented and gave Werner his permission to ride again. A comment was made by one of the officials that they had also witnessed an unidentified rider, on a Suzuki, doing the same thing, to which Werner replied, 'see I'm not the only one'. Little did they know, he was said unidentified Suzuki rider! :ROFLMAO:
