... I`m starting to get all nostalgic now .......

1200 * 1637 * just a couple of weeks before I sold it , Nov 2019 , with 225,610 miles on the clock , ( 212,531 by me ) .........

... That`s 363,084 km since new , ( 342,035 km by me ) ..... if you`re metrically minded .......

How long did it take you to do 212,000 miles.?- that's pretty inpressive.

... and if you`re still with me ........ a couple more from about the same time .... Slaters shop window ( Sunday , so it was closed ) .....

... Orange things are a Palmelli 878 , and a 5000 / 8000 ( someone will know ) SFC ....... ( Did all 5000 batch have protruding headlight rims ? ... I`ve forgotten .... ) .......

All the 5000/8000 SFC had the metal protruding headlight rim, originally.

How long did it take you to do 212,000 miles.?- that's pretty inpressive.

A long time ........ ! .......

From March 1980 till Nov 2019 ....... although mileage fell off a bit in the final ten years ........

.......... Highest annual mileage was recorded from roughly late `eighties till early `noughties .........

1988 and 1989 both recorded as 14,100 miles each .......... ( yes , I kept notes ..... ) .......... Taking part in National Rallies around this time also helped bump the mileage up ........

Also managed 9365 miles in 1996 , despite a six month speeding ban from January till June .......

House moves and other things meant mileage dropped off a bit from 2003 onwards , although I still managed another 21,000 miles between then and selling the bike in 2019 ....


Richard Slater once said to me ... " You`d be lost without that old bike of yours , wouldn`t you Tony ...... " ...........

The answer to that is ..... In many ways yes , but in other ways no ...... ...........



All this looking back reminds me of another slightly amusing ( to me anyway ) thing from around 1982 / 3 .........

I was using the Mirage for the daily journey into work ( don`t drive a car ) , and passing through Westbury on Trym each morning , there was always a CB900 coming the other way ...... nearly every day our paths would cross .....

At the time I had swapped the standard Mirage bars for a set of Jota bars , adjusted into the appropriate position of course .......

Every day Mr CB900 , with his standard rise handlebars , would look at me as he rode past ....... and then one day he appeared , guess what , hunched down over a pair of clip - ons .... ! .......

... They do say imitation in the most sincere form of flattery ...........

Very surprised you sold it, even more surprised someone bought it with best part of quarter of a million miles on the clock ( you know what I mean..) still, fair play to you- I’m all for wearing them out properly!

... ....... It`s history was known to the person who bought it ........ and that was reflected in the price it was exchanged for ... ( I thought ! ) ......
