I recently rationalised the big wiring on the RGS. Found the frame earth point almost inaccessible under the battery box, corroded and unloved. Moved it to a brand new hole on a spare bit of frame tab adjacent the N terminal which more than halves its length. Then found the engine earth under a bolt for the breather, so only conducting via the bolt thread because there is a gasket. Moved that to the accessible starter motor bolt, where it is needed, which also halved the length because of the previous circuitous route. Also not impressed with the state of the crimps so used all new cable and lugs.
As John, Cam, etc says, the original builders didn’t always do things in the best way, and we can take a bit of strain off these old bikes with these kind of small improvements.
