I'm having a go at getting to the Burt in February, or at least, that's the plan. A mate of mine mentioned over a beer that he was thinking of it so that was enough, we started planning.
I didn't want to say too much until the approval came through from the "Consents Office" but luckily it arrived in the weekend after a second oral application.
So the planning begins....
Seems a lot of people plan further ahead than this, so not a lot of accommodation available, but I think we can make it work. Stay tuned, I'll post a few updates as things get closer, and hopefully show a bit of southern sun while the north is frozen over.
Naturally if anyone else is thinking of going, let me know, we'll catch up.

Route planning taking place:
North Island: Auckland to Wellington via Napier (never ridden south of Napier for some reason)
South Island: Picton through Nelson and Reefton and on to the West Coast, Haast Pass and on to Oreti. Hopefully good weather, although you never can tell on the 'Coast even in February, they only have two forecasts over there: "Rain" and "Going to Rain".
At around 1800km each way, I'd better pack the oil-change gear :p

Great tour, I was in that area with my girlfriend and two 250 enduros (Honda and Yamaha) in 1990, Christchurch, Quenstown, Te Anau, Haast Pass, Hokitika, Athers Pass, Greymouth, Nelson, Picton and then Wellington, Rotorua and Napier. That was a great time, we made 6000 k in 8 weeks and met John Britten at Ruapuna and at his house- unforgetable 😄

Those are certainly marvellous memories Andre 👍

Ha. Back in the 80's when there was still a National round at Teretonga, my business partner and I used to hire the track on the Friday. We ran the unofficial practise day for about four years then the club realised how much money we made off it and took it over. Until then it was officially only a two day meeting.
No point in scheduling a meeting with me this time. I've moved into ChCh. Won't be down there either. Even the Southern Classic this year I'll probably only go one day and then only if I can get a lift. Old age is a bastard.

Hey Andy do the Lewis pass on the return leg you won’t be disappointed 😁

I may well be heading to NZ in 2024 to visit my #2 daughter, assuming she hasn’t quit the country by then. What do you reckon the chances are of blagging a bike to ride in the track and road races?

Depends where , when and at what level you want to ride. I still have some contacts and could put you in touch if required. Timing of your visit is the deciding factor really as you're limited to what's on at that time.

Thanks Greg. I expect it would be sometime between December to February. National level would be good but happy to ride in a club race if it was at an interesting enough event and circuit. However, I would prefer a ’proper’ road race.

Do they still run road races, I like the cemetery circuit concept.Didnt they have one where you crossed a railway line.

I used to see pics of hay bales around telegraph pole, and jumping railway tracks. Looked like fantastic fun

Still is. I'm hearing that first time entries are now expected to have some past race history at a reasonable level.
FWIW I'm told the graveyard hasn't had fresh use for some years.
It's the last round of the Suzuki series which has the other two rounds before Xmas.
The Nationals move South in the new year with a break before the last rounds in the North Island.

If you're going to be in the North Island I can't really help you much. i don't kniow what the club race series dates are at Manfield - the Vic Club - Taupo or Hampton Downs. Do some googling of dates at the various tracks mentioned and see which clubs are running meetings.
Have you had any contact with kiwis in the IOM ? I know the Carl Cox team have helped several UK riders they've met in the IOM.
