I would imagine some bean counter at C&E has worked out how many millions of lost tax revenue could be recouped by hitting the £40-£134 window, this is a self imposed ruling, nothing to do with the B word.

Correct. It's got no direct connection to Brexit. It's all to do with the UK government wanting to collect VAT on all those Chinese supplied nick-knacks.
It was a move dreamed up outside Brexit, but apparently no-one at Customs & Excise had the intelligence to think Brexit might have an impact (Or maybe they did, but decided to play politics ...)

Sorry, but they're talking through their arses. I've got enough to do with my own administration stuff, I'm certainly not going to help HMRC to do their fucking job. Why haven't 10000 extra jobs been installed to cope with imports? The UK government had 2 years to prepare for it, they knew what would be coming, they can't all be THAT dumb. Colossal clusterfuck imho.

My girlfriend had a new handbag delivered from Guess this week, it was posted from Switzerland, no charges, just delivered normally. Are items sent from Switzerland exempt? I know they aren't in the EU but neither is Norway and they levy the charges.

Not sure if you can gift Pay Pal from the U.S. Cayman is actually linked to the U.S. System ,I found that out when I tried to withdraw funds from my Pay Pal wallet was told I needed a U.S. Based bank account. gifting has never been available to me , when buying from non commercial sellers I always end up adding the vendors fees to the bill. I pay import duty of 22 - 27% , shipping cost is added to the calculation, regardless of where I buy it from. Things get expensive fast . My solution is to use a freight forwarder in Miami and take advantage of the free shipping within the Is which is often available.most everything goes the route now I typically bring in ten or so items at a time. Not great if you need it in a hurry..we have a saying here .. "Soon come" aka hurry up and wait. On the plus side the shipping works out quite cheap per item . Then again we do not pay income , tax applied across the board on just about everything at entry.

Charges have gone through the roof everywhere. I wanted a small item from the states at a cost of $21, by the time I would have got it in the UK the final charge was just over £80.....no thanks.

Maybe now that it's more expensive and it takes longer getting things into this country we might actually get around to manufacturing things again
In a
world we could turn the clock back and make everything for ourselves. But it ain't and the big tech companies have now distroyed the high Street to such an extent that people that are involved with them will hike there price's. We the collective, we are all to blame as we go to the computer and just buy any old shit without realising the consequences.
The Dutch and now a pain in the ham sandwich, why because Rotterdam is going to be hit hard by the freight that will go direct to the UK.
One last thing it was a democratic vote that is the start of all the bollocks.
