Can you tell the difference between 4C cams and stock on a triple?

It's hard-marked on the camshaft, and pretty easy to see. The 4c cams come on hard at 4k if all is well.
 
You wont be able to tell the difference at idle, as stated above once you hit 4K revs the cam will kick in and you will know if it has 4c cams fitted.
 
So just the stamping of 4C on the cams is what makes all the extra power. Next time I do a valve check I am gonna stamp mine with 5C and have even more power than the losers with 4C cams.

Also it would probably be a good idea to use two cable ties instead of one so it is balanced at high rpm's.
Simpler just to paint it orange and put Jota badges on it.

As far as my Mirage was concerned , the 4C`s only seemed really happy once you had 5000-5500 rpm dialed up ...... less noticeable in the lower gears , but once in top the bike would enter a distinct powerband at 5500 rpm ( 100 mph ) .... from that point on , acceleration and throttle response would become quite zippy , almost like entering a powerband on a two stroke ( almost ... ) .....

I guess the 1200`s lower compression engine would take some of the edge out of the powerband , or push it further up the rev range ....... or , to put it another way , the 1200`s extra low down torque would mean transition into the 4C`s optimum rev range would be less pronounced when it occurred , so the 4C`s influence only becomes apparent when it`s really getting a kick on ( 5500 rpm plus ) .......

As I said , with the 1200 , this was only really noticeable in the higher gears .......... in the lower ones there was so much noise , vibration , and excitement going on , anything could have been happening under the tank ....

Back in top again , throttle response below 5000 rpm would be strong , but never hurried ..... twisting the throttle wide open at these low engine speeds would result in not much extra speed , only a sort of deep note of exasperation from the engine .... ( " what the hell is that idiot up there doing ? ... change down a couple of gears and try it again ... " ) ......

I think the elephant in the room is that fitting 'hot' cams to a motor (and exhaust system) that isn't a coordinated package is a brilliant waste of fuel. A bike with a motor producing 100hp between 7000 and 8000rpm will be left for dead by another producing 75hp with loads of torque across a much broader powerband - it'll also be a whole lot more fun to ride.

Eg, I fitted twin headers and Conti mufflers to my 74SFC specced motor for rego purposes and it was by any definition 'very dull' - a GT would have left it behind. Similar when I went for a spin with the same motor and the reverse cone removed from the factory 2/1 (open mega) - it revved out but produced noticeably less power (made a huge amount of noise though!). Ask Red and Twinweb (Paul) - and anyone else out there who knows about this stuff - about the importance of an exhaust system in the 'whole package'. It's a science.

'Hot' cams and instant power gains are a myth.
 
I forget his name, famous USA-based bike dino bloke. Mentor to the other famous Meoboure-based Ducati dino bloke whose name I also forget used to say if you don't tune it your wasting your money building it. The yank, Doug Lofgren and the Oz Brad Black.

 
You can quite easily spot the difference by eye if you're looking at an A11 and 4C side by side. The A11 (and presumably A12) are very 'pointy', while a 4C is more 'fat' around the lobe area. Obvious really, because the valve is being held open longer at high lift. There is a picture in the green book that shows it perfectly.
Agree that you don't hear a difference at idle, but riding it's easy to spot. Even poorly set up 4C's are noticeably different to A11's. There is always an added urgency in the top end, badly set up that is even more pronounced. A11's are just flat above five or six grand.
 
Is there a discussion here of the various grinds? I have Axtell’s in my Executive, but I did it as soon as I bought it and don’t really recall how it felt prior.
