Canadian Laverda owners in Ontario, who are you using for Insurance?

Serenity now!!!!!! Three bikes currently insured with full coverage but they won't touch a Laverda. There's a special place reserved in hell for vehicle insurers.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks

I have mine insured through Intact Insurance Company, the agent is Brokerlink. Its on a vintage policy along with my Super 7 and MG-TD. Hagerty also have a Canadian arm, and insure collector/classic motorcycles but don't know if they do Laverda or not.

Hello Stu, thanks for the reply. Brokerlink won't touch the RGS and suggested that Laverda's are on the "banned" list.

I currently have the house, two vehicles and 3 bikes (2 Harley's and a Honda Big Red Pig) fully insured through The Personal and they won't do it either.

I can insure an RC51 or an R1 but an RGS is considered a sportbike and on their evil list.

I kinda knew getting my TM Racing enduro insured might be a challenge even after I snuck it through to get it blue plated but I never thought getting the RGS insured would be an issue.

TIme to adjust the tinfoil hat, hang another onion off the belt and go out and yell at some clouds. Fuckers.

That’s crazy!!!! I’ve heard the late ZX12’s and ZX14’s were blacklisted, but a40 yr old sport tourer???
Out here in BC with our government insurance company, we often grumble from our literal “one choice only” insurance company, but OMG do they ever spoil us with their ‘collector plate’ and ‘vintage plate’ programs!!

Interesting, guess the Laverda 1200 Mirage is not considered a sportsbike. Had my BMW HP2S insured with them about 5 years ago on a 'normal policy' no issues but I guess things have changed. A few Canadians on this site with RGS bikes that ride them regularly so hopefully they will chime in.

Hello Steve and Stu, I used to live on the island (Victoria) and spent a year or two in Calgary years ago. I miss the Island's scenery and Alberta's politics :)

It's a shit show with the insurance in Ontario...... I wish I could find a way to ban Big Bertha's, Calaway 9 irons and Taylor Made 7 irons just to give those bastards a taste of their own medicine. Oh and maybe a dose of chlamydia.

I think the Ontario RGS chapter is a fairly small affair, so hopefully I can find a resolution.

I've reached out to the Insurance Bureau of Canada so perhaps they'll point me in the right direction.

My old car became uneconomical to insure with full comprehensive insurance, so it's got 3rd party fire and theft. That insures everything except your vehicle if you're not at fault. That comprehensive issue is that it's really expensive to acquire parts for older vehicles for repair.

I'm in Manitoba. Here it is only provincial govt owned vehicle insurance. No problems insuring my RGS Corsa. This would only useful if you lived in Kenora and had a friend who lived a few miles away in Mb who you could "sell" the bike to and register it, then loan it back to you. Or maybe your close to Quebec?

You could paint your RGS orange, get some Jota Stickers, slap them on the gas tank and you could then insure it and apparently sell it for a way more than an RGS.

And I suppose I'd have to stick a 180* sticker on it as well, no thank you ;) lol. I'll have to figure something out.

Are you in the 'Peg? I spent a couple of years on a potash project in Rocanville SK, just north of Moosomin and within spitting distance of Mb.

Cool, mine is an uncorked 2004, FCR carb, pro circuit exhaust. I have it set up for supermoto right now with a CRF450R front end, Behr wheels, Beringer cast rotor and caliper with a Brembo radial master cylinder. I have a set of Alpina tubeless wheels for it....... just have to get around to fitting them up. I also pressed in an XR650R steering stem in the bottom CRF triple clamp so the bearings are the same when doing the change over....... saves time and wear and tear on the frame's steering head.

I have the stock off road front end for it too. It just sits in a corner in triple clamps with brake caliper and master cylinder all ready to go.

I have the IMS 16 litre tank on it right now. I had it on the dyno a few years ago and it pulled 54.6hp at the rear wheel, couldn't get the torque due to the big tank being in the way of the plug to get an tach input. I didn't think it was making that much actually...... we figured it would be around 48hp. The BRP still doesn't have the low down torque right off the bottom like the radial head XR650 did. Great bike though....... I'd be hard pressed to get rid of it.

I've fitted another Beringer cast rotor to the front Alpina as well...... looks really sharp..... I'll grab a pic tomorrow.

My IMS tank has "yellowed" due to me running leaded Klotz race fuel......... I love that Klotz perfume. :)

Cheers

Yes located in Winnipeg. Not much Potash in Manitoba, funny how it pretty well stops at the Saskatchewan border. Hope you sort out the insurance....the older I get the less tolerance I have for stupid beauocratic shit.

Oh, ok, totally different bikes. You’ve got the liquid cooled R model,, I’ve got the dinosaur air cooled L model. Both lovingly “Red Pigs”, but huge difference!

Nothing wrong with the radial head L model, when they are done up the torque they make is incredible and you have the magic thumb start. Woods riding on the liquid cooled R model is always interesting....... kick starting a big single on the side of a hill is a great motivator to improve your riding skills.

When you mentioned how many km's you had on yours, I thought this guy's ultra hardcore to track the mileage on an R, as they only had a three digit enduro tripometer from the factory. lol

When my old Beemer GS bumblebee turned 25 yrs old, I put in on my multi-vehicle collector plate, and she became a street queen after years as my actual single track and Baja bike. I needed something simple, capable, very robust, dealer every 20 miles. Had to be an air cooled PIG.

Hey...... How about a '93 Paris Dakar, Silver and Red...... you know you need one :)

It's one of my Dad's bikes...... The sooner that leaves the sooner I can get another bike to his place :)
I used to own one, a ‘93 PD, took it to Baja once. Sold it a few yrs ago as it was a bit of duplication with the GS beside it, and not much room. I think the fellow who bought it from me still owns it.

I have a 89 GS and have done a heap of riding with my mate who has a 95 GSPD. He has done well over 400000 kays with his and there are not many places in Oz he hasn't ridden it to/through mostly remote. Distances much further than the 35 litre tank will take him so also packing fuel.
I have done about 120000 kays on mine. I have 100s kays of dirt roads on my back boundary so a great bike to own where I live.
My GS sees more dirt than tarmac so wears chunky tyres which ain't so good on the road.
Fantastic bike and no way would I upgrade to any of the later models. The air heads are so much better than the later versions that basically lost the plot for anything more than a gravel driveway.
