Cars and bikes I’ve come across in my travels

Andy: Lucky lad being allowed to visit the motor shrine plus plus plus. My overriding thoughts are under
no circumstances if the collection is to be auctioned is to get in bed with the high profile auction houses.
There is an impending Bonhams auction with a green(?) Ducati 750SS coming up for sale very soon. This
bike of course is hugely valuable and out of curiosity I checked out the seller's premium at the hammer...
28% !!! There are arguments both ways regarding auctions but I think with some good advice and guidance
the owners could orchestrate the sales privately. My belief is there is a lot of subtle (and not so subtle)
pressure from the auction staff to list both reserve and no reserve auctions so that the house makes it's money
irrespective of the clients pay out.
Absolutely agree.
Total mercenary activity.
Many times verging on criminal activity in my opinion.

Watching this sale and out of interest, 28% is for projects etc, So for buyers of motorbikes,

Motorcycles and Motorcars (Lot 1 – 180) The Buyer’s Premium will be 15%+VAT on the first £500,000 of the Hammer Price of each Lot, and 12%+VAT on the balance thereafter.

And for non bikes,
Motorcycle Projects, Memorabilia and Spares (Lot 201 - 321) The Buyer’s Premium will be 28%+VAT on the first £40,000 of the Hammer Price, then 27%+VAT up to £800,000, then 21%+VAT up to £4,500,000 and 14.5%+VAT on the balance thereafter.
Check t&c,
Stuart
Don't forget the Sellers Fee also. Generally 10%
So
Seller looses 10% of the hammer
Buyer pays 15% on top of the Hammer
All plus VAT.
Auction house clears 25%
You as seller and buyer take the risk respectively as long as the top line description is legally stated.
The rest is for you as buyer to decide and check.
No warranty, no nothing, and you pay extra if you don't take it away on the day! (which is quite hard to do with an expensive item that needs funds to clear etc)

It can work for people who don’t want the hassle or have the time for advertising and having people turn up to view/tyre kickers etc, increasing number of deceased estates and the like, it can cost a huge amount to put on these auctions.

Check out these ‘we buy any whatever’ company’s, what they end up offering can be quite different to the starting figure.
as we all know, any purchase of used cars/bikes is buyer beware anyway, no warranty on private sales.
Ya pays yer money
