Club Laverda NSW Nimitabel Pub run 26-27/2/22

Dave you must have stayed at the Nimmitable before?
Kel's cooking is something else, thats for sure....

I'd been watching the rain radar for a week, Fran reckons I'm addicted to it. I do look at it most mornings before my 1/2 hour commute to work. The weather at the moment in Sydney is unusual to say the least. The rain was basically on the coast, not going out of the Sydney basin. Storms though have been travelling further inland. This was bourn out on saturday, we met in the rain at the Oasis cafe, a few notable regulars where missing. I told Tom no use waiting for it to stop raining, we needed to climb up to the southern highlands.

My prediction was correct, as soon as we climbed up to Colo Vale, the rain had stopped. A dry run down to Nowra ensued, with a great coffee and catch up with the Heathcote starters. A spirited ride throught to Bungendore followed, with Tom and Peter managing to get lost. There are 3 signposted turns to Tarago, keep your eyes open lads!

After lunch we headed down to Queanbeyan, watching the storm off to the south. Things where about to get interesting. The long boring run down the Monaro highway, in heavy rain, was ordinary to say the least. My newish Merlin jacket held up pretty well, a small wet patch on the front. Wearing winter guantlet gloves definitley helps stop the water run up your sleeves. Others with modern style jackets where wet through.

The rain eased off for the final run through to Nimitibel. Fires where already lit in the pub, and a typical club evening followed, and as always, 1 or 2 glasses of red too many.

Next morning, and the sun was out! You beauty! Some bacon and eggs, and into it. A smooth run through to Adamidaby for fuel. The scenery through here is awesome. We quickly split up, the fast boys out the front, Grahame, Kent, Terry and I bringing up the rear. Having missed out on cheesecake in Berridale, I was happy to find a very nice carrot cake for morning tea in Tumut. Yum! Looking at the forecast, we decided going up to Crookwell might not be wise, so headed along the freeway to Marulan, via a lunch stop in Gunning. That was enough, I hate freeways. The 750 is geared down so 110km/h is 3700 revs. Grahame and I decided the freeway was not the place to be in the rain, so turned off to Wingello, Bundanoon and Picton, with almost no traffic, a very light shower of rain, and arrived home around 8pm. Shower, toast and a cup of tea, and all was right with the world.

I was great to see so many people out on a dodgy weather weekend, wouldn't have missed it for the world. 4 x 750's, how good is that!

An interesting road will often compensate for poor riding conditions. However Bucket's Way from Gloucester to Taree, in the rain, behind a slow truck with poor vision and no safe passing opportunities, that was no fun. (That was back in about 1997).

Cheers,
bazzee
