Clutch cable lube

Then yours must be special.
I fit new ones and they are a tight fit.

Might put some grease into it. 100km of oncoming lorries throwing walls of water at you will get water anywhere.

Yes, it can sometimes get wet. And surely you believe everything you see.  ;)

none of these solutions are any good at all for Paul, because they all involve spending small  (on some occasions minuscule) amounts of money.

James WC's problem on the way to Breganze with his eagle was a less than 600 kilometre NEW cable supplied by Venhil,.So jammed was it that he could not ride it any further and I rescued him with a trailer which was carrying TOG  (no excuse there as I was also carrying Duff's anni, and he was 79 and intent on riding his Laverda across Piazza Mazzini)

We dropped him off at Andy Wagners and later we were told that there was no internal damage (which we were sure of) and that all that was needed was a replacement clutch cable, it felt as though there was a bit of wood between the lever and the bar, I am not sure what lube (if any) was used in this nylon lined cable, but a conventional one from Wagners (not a Venhill) has solved the problem, still much too heavy, I noticed last week at Baskers that Longshanks has fitted a DAM lever extension.

I hope you don't get the same Paul

I can sell you a hydraulic conversion at what grant would charge plus 100%, with the Euro at what it is that must be a bargain.

Well, the cable that gave me so much hassle came from Wagners.
The previous one came from Venhill and lasted 15 years till it got very stiff and I wonder if I hadn't squirted silicone down it having no more WD40.
The Venhill now on the bike gives no problem though it's been on the bike exposed to the elements as a backup since 1992.

The lesson JWC should learn is that you always carry a spare cable.

Some years ago, the advice I got from Venhill for their 'featherlight' cable was to agitate it & flush it with (soft) water, thoroughly, if it got dirty or stiff, but not to use lube. I ignored them of course and use SL90 as mentioned below, no ill effects.

I now see their web sight suggests WD40 and 3in1...

The last time I bought a clutch cable from Venhill I ordered an extra inner wire and solderless nipple which I put in a ziploc
bag in the seat unit.
As the bottom of the 500 cable gets liberally splashed from the front wheel on the very occasional wet days in Scotland it tends
to fail at the outer termination on the sump or at the clutch arm fork so you usually loose the end fitting.
