125 or 150 ...... Laverda or Garelli or American Eagle ...... the choice is yours .........

Did Garelli / American Rex Corporation and Moto Laverda do a deal behind Jack McCormacks back ? .........

........and did Moto Laverda enter into this arrangement ( hedging their bets ) in the hope that the Garelli name might prove to be a better marketing tool in the USA than either American Eagle or , for that matter , Laverda ? .............

The 1968 ISDT was held in Italy. So 125cc.

There are hundreds , seemingly thousands of these " shorts " on the Tube ........... all basically the same , but they all ride away in gear ( obviously ) with the prop stand down , which normally shouldn`t be possible .............

Dead easy to bypass the switch , but I wonder if there`s some bloke in a Chinese back street who spends all day doing nothing else , seeing the number of shorties who feature in these shorts .........

......( although it`s almost always a Morini X Cape , so maybe always the same girl ......... difficult to tell for sure ....... .......... ) ..................

There`s another one where the bike has retractable " training wheels " ......... a bit like that Swiss Ecomobile FF from the `eighties ..........

Not videos just cool pics- Black & White of Eric Fernihough on the Brough that did about 180 mph pre war-looks absolutely superb in tweeds grinning like a naughty kid having broken his arm- marvellous. Second is Graham Crosby in a rush to leave pit lane on a Zed- look closely he’s sidesaddle!

Read about Eric in Motor Cycle in the late`sixties ......... trying to remember the significance of the black cat on the nose fairing ...........

Lucky black cat or not , he sadly lost his life in 1938 in Hungary attempting to break the world solo motorcycle speed record ........

I`ve got the same problem ........ either I`m getting shorter or the bikes are getting bigger ..... or both ........

It`s not so much the seat height , but cocking my ancient limbs over the raised rear seat hump / pillion section which every bike seems to have nowadays ......... even piddly little 125`s ..............

This guy's technique (0:27) shows the style to aim for: The half-pirouette.

I`ve tried that technique a few times , but ended up nearly kicking the bike off it`s stand ........ I usually stand on the footrests now , but can be a bit tricky when parked on a slope ........ your weight on a sidestand has to be taken into consideration as well ....... especially if you own an Aprilia ... ( snap ) ..........

There used to be a clip of some lanky sod stood next to his sportsbike at some lights ....... when the time came to go he did a 180 degree pirouette , his airbourne leg clearing the bloody SCREEN of the bike , before landing in the seat the correct way round ..........

Flash git .............

A couple of GSX-R`s versus a couple of supermotards versus ......... something ...........

Something wins .........

No use pulling wheelies at the end mate , you were handed it to you ..............

Back in the `seventies there was a bloke .... ( Chris something , I think ) ..... who took a 1920`s Scott around Brands Hatch , regularly finishing in front of private Suzuki RG500`s .............. The noise the Scott made was described as " the sound of tearing calico " ..................

As someone said in the comments ....... As soon as you see those handlebars , you just know he`s going to win .... ! ..........

I`ve been trying to figure out what it is .......... It`s a four stroke twin of around 600 - 650 cc ......... Kawasaki ER6 or something like that maybe ?

On second thoughts , it couldn`t be an Atlas , could it .......... ? ............ :) ................

Update ........

Just looked up an Auto Race bike ... ( because that`s what it is ) ..... and typically it`s a 599 cc bike with a two speed gearbox .

Seen here in a mach race against pukka race bikes and supermotards .......... but Auto Race was a gambling sport , along with all the race fixing and dubious activity that went with it , involving the yakuza ( Japanese mafia ) ........ culminating in the Black Mist Scandal of 1967 .............

( I`m not making this up ........ ) ..........

In an effort to combat race fixing , all competing riders were forced to sleep together in a locked dormitory before race day , to avoid any sort of contact with the outside world ..........

The sport has since been cleaned up and run on a more official basis ........ bit of a shame by the sound of it ...............

IIRC someone posted that video here a number of years ago and it made me smile and when I watch it again I'm still smiling..
To me it looks like Herman Munster riding a chopper leaning back on it's sissy bar flat track racing past a couple of gixxers. Who says skinny tyres no good!
Love it!!

BTW ........... I may be wrong , but I think it was Chris Williams who rode the Scott .......... He briefly attended the same injury recovery hospital unit at the same time as Peter Williams ... ( no relation ) .... who was still recovering two or three years after his career ending accident on the John Player Norton .

CW`s injuries were nowhere as severe as PW`s ...... there`s a picture of the two of them together with CW`s arm in a sling and PW on crutches ..........

Might be of some interest ......... It`s a 120 degree triple , but Thailand / Japanese ........ not Breganze ............

Mr Moto Tech over in China has made a series of similar videos ............ usually showcasing engines which have developed problems ............

The usual suspects ( KTM and Aprilia ) feature of course .......... although the Aprilia RSV4 ( original version ) with the cam followers breaking up could be down to previous owner mis-use .........

As Mr Moto Tech says .... ( and my dad used to say ) ........ When you buy used , all you`re doing is buying other people`s mistakes ..........

The Triumph 660 featured here is a good example of what could be lurking unseen inside ......... although as Mr MT says , some of the repairs seem to have been expertly done .........

Interesting series , never the less ................ ( if you like this sort of thing ) ..................

PS ....... Watching this makes me wonder how This Bloody Bike is coming along .............. .....................

PPS .... In a similar vein , I won`t mention Triumph 400 camshafts / camchain tensioners ......... oops , just did .................
