I have a cheap rattle gun that goes to 120 n/m I think.
I do them up with that.

With 420 n/m, just before stripping the thread, you'll unphase the crank.

It would be quite safe on a Breganze 750, since it wouldn't do anything.

Using the big ends to restrain the crank against that type of tightening would not be advisable on any roller bearing bigend motor. Very few people have access to the tool shown that holds the oil pump drive gear, so a rattle gun is the easiest option.

The tool van be easily purchased, (not as original, but very "agricultural")  it does work very well, or, if you are in the UK, you could loan one from the club, or maybe a local ILOC member.
