I was just passing through Eastwood on First Avenue and I got a headlight flash, and I am thinking why would that happen. The Fixed Red light speed has been there for decades. And then I noticed the small white 4 wheel drive parked on the other side of the road about 500m before the fixed camera. Yep, it was an unmarked Speed Camera car set up to catch those who slow for the fixed camera and then resume NORMAL SPEED. This is a major 2 lane road with a 60k limit and most are just above it. Further on a see one of those big illuminated signs heading into the city with the latest casual speeding crock of BS that's getting plastered all about. Looks like Macquarie Bank has been set of its leash to go after this casual speed thing to the max.

Welcome to the future! I reckon this is going to become more prevalent wherever you drive as it is a relatively cheap and easy way of catching ‘speeders’. They’re even planning to introduce them here on the IOM.

Have I missed something here? Has Macquarie Bank got a contract to run mobile speed cameras? Surely it would be wrong to have a business participating in law enforcement, their focus would be on maximising profits rather than performing a service to society.

Not long now that every registered vehicle will have a transponder that records everything and the data is fed to a large database. Speeding infractions will be immediately detected and fines issued accordingly. So even a blast on the quietest country road you can find will not keep you 'safe' from the long arm ... brave new world and 1984 ...

But it's OK - we all know speed is excessively dangerous - nothing to do with shit driving.

Yeah, i didn't quite get the connection either.

They have had the contact for mobile speed cameras for ages, and guess who would want the signs removed or who might like to be pushing every K over is a killer. The latest TV ad campaign that show just how deadly driving at 61is when you could be completely safe at 60 just like the sign says. They even have in that add a RECOMENDED but never been enforceable 85kph bend sign that also WILL result in your death when you do 86 around the same bend. Somehow there is calibration between FUNDED University road safe research that seamlessly dovetails into this every k over is a kill message and the lastest huge increase of Mobile Speed Camera cars and the removal of the signs they used to by law have to put out before and after the camera. It's a never-ending cash cow for the Government and the bank and impossible to dispute it as it's all for safety and our own good.

I have just received a -30 EUR worth "present" from Austria afterwards. On the way to Croatia I drove through a town there.
My vehicle was filmed / scanned at the entrance of the town and then again at the end of the town.
Unfortunately, I got there so quickly that I had to drive a calculated 56km/h instead of the allowed 50 km/h.

"Section-controll" is the name of the new "toy" that is also used on Austrian and Italian motorways.
There is no longer a visible flash unit or radar car. Only a lost, unreadable or fake license plate solves this problem.

Thomas aus LAU who luckily still has an Oregon license plate for the bikes ......

I wouldn't mind if it was only a small fine, for 10 over it's a slightly smaller fine and 1 point but for 15ks over it's $400 plus maybe 3 points on your licence. Do 30 over and it's a $2000 fine and it's 6 months or could be a year walking holiday depending on the beak on the day. And exceed 12 points in 3 years and you get a 3-month walking holiday. Probably fair enough for stupid speed in a stupid place but the small ones can add up very quickly especially with these mobile units and if you are driving a lot. To me draconian.

Fitted one of those bicycle computers to the Yellow Peril, thirty-eight year old speedo isn't quite accurate enough to avoid getting booked for a smidgeon over the limit.

Yep, haven't seen any for a while ,but they were setting up speed cameras on a tripod with a camo net over them, then hiding the car back in the bushes on country roads. Also had one hidden in a wheelly bin for a while.
Thing is the govmit reduce speed limits on country roads from 100 to 80 in the name of safety, but then they only need to maintain that road as a 80k road not a 100k road.

Macquarie? LOL! Don't get me started. But that was another life.

On another topic, there's a great deal of concern about raw sewage being discharged into the waterways and inshore waters.

...........

Rather than fix the road I see a lot of signs that say Take Care Rough Road Ahead. Signs are cheaper than Bitumen

It seems to me that Canada is the only place left in 'the west' where you can speed without constant fear of detection and fine - based on the3 rides Paul has been posting anyway. I've managed to reduce the number of low level fines i get by never driving over about 64kph, and NEVER through an intersection. NSW has always had that system of signs to inform you there's a speed camera in op - in Vic they'll put them at the safest place possible, where you are most likely to go a bit over - and yes, I just get so angry with all this safety bullshit. Every day I see the most shitful and dangerous driving and it rarely involves speeding.

The wipe off 5 campaign here in Vic just made me laugh - it was just that they knew everyone exploited the % for error in speeding fines so lowered the threshold. Won't be long before every road outside a freeway will have an 80kph limit.

Good on you, Paul (Marx) - you enjoy your Laverda for completely different reasons than I (or many on here) do. If I'm going to ride everywhere at posted limits, I'd rather be in the Skoda.

I am at the moment waiting to see if a ‘notice to prosecute’ drops onto my door mat in the next few days for failing to slow down quickly enough from 70mph to 40mph on one of the UK’s wonderfully safe ‘smart’ motorways. 😕

We have a sign for that, when they lowered the town limits from Just crazy 60kph to warm and snugglerly 50kph they also installed a sign just before the 50kph sign that says approaching 50kph limit. Maybe I should get into the safety sign business.

I actually like the 60 ahead, 40 ahead type signs. In fact I intended to contest a speeding fine because I interpreted a 'Roadwork Ahead 40' sign to mean there was a limit of 40 about to be arrived at. I was doing 85 before slowing down and hitting the 40 sign at 40 - the prick deliberately recorded the speed on a downhill 250m before the 40 sign (from his hiding spot another 250m further on from the 40), which meant I was doing 45 over the posted limit according to him. I told him he must be joking ... nup, didn't even reduce the speed to save me looking like a rabid lunatic, screaming around at 45 over the fukn limit (this country road BTW had been reduced from 100 to 80 only about 2 years before). I went back to the scene the next day, took photos, posted the fine with the 'intention to contest in court' box ticked, with the photos and a letter of explanation.

Heard nothing, but 5 years later a letter arrives from the Sherriff's office saying I owe blah blah, pay or my licence and car rego are suspended until it is. I write (several to and fros) stating what had happened, they say the cops say they never received the letter and i should have FOLLOWED IT UP when I heard nothing!! I ended up contacting the ombudsman, they said, 'sorry, too long ago'. No choice but to pay the ransom (with added costs). Still fukking seething to this day. And the roadworks was complete, not a witches hat, worker, wheelbarrow or spade in sight, let alone a worker.
