Why is it that 2, unsigned private messages, from a moderator, posted around the time I started having major problems connecting to this forum have disappeared? Deleted PMs usually show up as deleted.

Whatever, I'm still having huge problems connecting to this forum. This message will have taken half a dozen tries to get into the topic and as much again to post. About 15 min in all.
This has been going on 2 weeks at least. As soon as I log in, unlogged access to the forum is instantaneous.
I'd much appreciate if one of of the people with access to the forum settings would tell me what's up.
Thanks
Paul

Hello Paul,

If I were you, I would do the following:

1. Check internet speed. This works in F, for example, here: speed_check

2. Update your browser (if not up to date)

3. Delete "Cookies and website data", this is normaly done in the browser under "settings" then "data protection"

4. Free computers from data scrap or errors. You can do this with free tools such as CCCleaner

If that doesn't help, I would also install another browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, ...)

I wish you a lot of success.

Hi Thomas,
Thanks.
I'm using Firefox, my PC is 1 week old. I spilt tea on the old one. Tea is a habit from my British period.
All my other programs run a lot faster on the new PC. The problem was present on my previous PC.
I regularly erase data and cookies.
I did the speed check. Between 25 and 39 Mb/s. We have an optical fibre connection.
So, the problem is either with my IP or with the forum.

If you go back a couple of weeks, the problem was evoked by another than myself under a heading that goes something like CIA, CCP.....

a wild guess (as you've said) it could be your ISP's DNS server

also a guess but easy and non-critical ... clear DNS cache (win or osx) and / or try another DNS server (enter manually into 'connection settings' either google or open dns or .... e.g. 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 (for opendns)

Drinking tea as a French? Possibly English tea!
Every secret service becomes suspicious of that. Probably both sides track your internet activity. 😎

But I'm a subject of her gracious majesty Elisabeth the second!
And my Grand parents were German choosing French nationality in 1900, British, or Swiss. My Polish ancestors are a bit further away.
We were already European when others were still busy killing each other.

Secret services are suspicious of every thing.

And it still takes me 10 minutes to read and answer your message with plenty of error messages during the process.

Hi Paul and all

I have not yet firgured out the current forum software, and Rob is near the end of a 6 week motorycle trip though Namibia. He is hoping to be back in the UK, subject to quaranting at home, about mid/end of next week.

Not ignoring you, just don't know how to address whatever the technical issue may be.
