EBC Brake Discs

It sounds like the same guy I used a few years to get new front 300mm rotors for the LM III. I told him I wanted 2 rotors and supplied the carriers and hardware for mounting.

He ground off the positioning ring on the carriers, threw out the nuts and bolts and threw away the old discs, all against my instructions.  >:( To top it off he upped the price $20 per rotor as he told me he quoted too cheap and wouldn't return my brakes until I paid.  >:D

The minimum on those rotors is 5.8 mm for the road but I've read that racers grind them down to 5mm to save unsprung weight. Mine were right on 5.8 but I would have happily used them as spares.

It is safe to say I personally wouldn't use that guy again.

Just my opersonal experience. Sad but true.  I wasn't going to wade into this but my concious got the better of me.

Are you sure it's the same bloke Rod? Graham sounded like he knew what he was talking about, and my brake rotors came back 100% perfect. He did exactly what I asked him to do - only a very light touch with the grinder to true them up.

Not 100% sure Cam.

Aussie Bike Discs was the name of the company. On a green business card. Can't remember the guys name as it has been a few years.

I got told he went bust but just did a quick search when you mentioned sending them to Qld and noticed that the old company name is attached to the phone number you supplied. New guy could have bought him out or he has picked up his game but the old business name appears linked. My news is old news and yours is new so maybe its all good now?

All I'm trying to say is be careful. A verbal quote and agreement wasn't enough. I really get tired of dealing with those of low integrity.

The material he used for the rotors was interesting too. I had trouble finding pads that worked well on it but SBS 506HF for F08's did the trick.

Allowable run off on those discs is 0.2mm. They only come out new at about 6.5mm so you can only skim the sides to keep them road legal to 5.8.  ::)

I dunno the bloke's history, except that he said he used to race bikes until he broke his neck in a crash and was partially paralysed.

My disks only had 0.1mm run-out after I had a go at truing them up myself (was 2.5 initially) but that wasn't good enough to get smooth braking. I reckon there must have been a slight variation in disk thickness because there were obvious tight spots as the wheel rotated.

Anyway, all sorted now, so I'm happy.

Sorry to revive this thread, but I have a slightly new problem.
(Mostly because I am not a professional engineer, and have been making it up as I go along).

I bought a complete Paoli front end from a Zane 750 which is set up with 320mm discs.
Have installed the forks and put my 18" wheel on, only to discover that the disc centres from the Zane are 60mm, rather than 80mm that the Breganze wheel requires.

I see my three choices as being:
-Machine the centre of the disc carrier to fit the 80mm wheel hub. (Probably not a safe action)
-Machine the wheel hub down to take the 60mm carrier.  (Is the possible/safe?)
-Find a 320mm disc with 80mm centre.  (Looked on EBC and BH.  They only seem to go to 300mm)

Anyone with any suggestions?

Should be long enough for a 750. I have a set of WP forks from a 668 Formula that measure the same length as the SFC. If they were 50mm longer I could have used them on the Motodd.
As for finding 320mm discs to suit the original 80mm centre and 101mm bolt holes, good luck!! Searched for years for a set. Easier to buy another front wheel I reckon.

ISR will manufacture discs to whatever dimension you need.

For a price! I looked into having a set of discs make to suit, not much change out of $900 :o Back then 2003/4 I missed a set of PVM 320mm floaters that had the right dimensions and off-set on ebay. They sold for $400us, was too late getting my final bid in. Might be worth contacting PVM, they may have a set on the shelf. I just ended up going the GSXR rims with new Metal Gear discs.

The forks are an inch or so longer than the Ceriani's that I replaced.

Rob:
Did you get GSX-R discs to fit the 80's wheels and a 320mm OD?
