Engine mounts 120 Jota

For sale advert prompts a question. My 120 jota has its original rubber engine mounts. I think we have established that nobody at Laverda knows or knew what the rubber hardness was, they where off a piece of agricultural equipment. I have a spare set which I want to experiment with. The hard nylon route has been tried without success. I want to drill holes in the rubber, anybody else tried this?

Jota is perfectly smooth above 4000rpm, but vibrates below this, which is not really a problem.

About rubber engine mounts, ween I build my Laverda Endurance racer, with
a SFC 1000 engine, I make my own engine bracket, and it work super, I use
a Honda CB 750 spareparts.

If they can make Ducati bits how hard would it be for Laverda bits if there is a market? Mr SFC Vintage more info on that front mount, please. Does it have a rubber insert for vibration reduction? I wonder how that might work on 180s?

Abort front bracket: Yes all have rubbe insert, I have use a racer for : Bikers Classic, so I have use my Engine 👍💪💪.
 
Michael Stöcker in Germany has produced a batch of much smaller (and lighter) engine mounts with (i think) replaceable rubber inserts. They come at a fairly high price though due to the low number he has made, but do fit the 120° series 1:1. Can ask if they are still available and if so, at what cost. They are silver though (stainless steel me thinks) but can be painted. Not sure if he would be willing to make a batch in black coated.

If you are in contact with him, it would be interesting to know price and availability, then I can slide it past the finance department.......
 
You can buy pourable rubber that you could cast your own engine mounts with. It comes as a 2-part liquid that you mix together like epoxy and pour into a mould. In the case of engine mounts, you'd pour it straight into the mounting hardware.

You might have to do a bit of googling to find exactly what you need. It took me about one minute to find this product from an Australian supplier - Reoflex 60. It's a flexible polyurethane with Shore hardness of 60.
It's normally used for making moulds, but its properties would be suitable for engine mounts. polyurethane has high temperature tolerance and is pretty much impervious to fuel and oil.

Here's a video by a bloke who made a set of engine mounts from Reoflex 60. He gives very detailed descriptions of every step so it's a bit long. I reckon he could have covered it in half the time.

 
Back in the days a fellow in sydney replaced the rubber mounts with Polyurethane on his RGA, it vibrated like mad and could only be tamed by drilling holes through the urethane. what the Shore hardness was is unknown. The bike now wears rubber mounts.
Just how a 60A Shore polyurethane compares to 60A Shore rubber I don't know. Logic would say it's the same.
Are there any members able to cast some light on this?
 
Some light reading. It looks like IRHD number is more important than Shore number as the former measures elastic capacity, more important for vibration control in engine mounts.

Big advantage of Michael's: they are much lighter and much smaller than the original ones. The whole set weights less than 2 Kilos. He uses them on his TTF1-Racer and has used them on street bikes, too. Seem to work well.
