Engine RPM = what speed in top gear?

That's sounds about right for a well tuned Breganzie Triple - Never owned one - By the time I could afford one I ended with an 84 Suzuki GWX 1100R Kantana. I know that Suzuki would do 140mp+ at 10,000 rpm+. I concluded that both the Breganzie Triple and that Geexer were too much for me so I kept my 7800+ rpm @ 120+ mph Breganzie 70 SFO for some 45 years and still alive after a life of riding 2 wheels - Can't say not without a pain I still feel at 73 years old ;o)

Like it or not but the Suzuki GWX 1100R selling for 1/2 the price of a Breganzie Triple (Here in Canada) put Breganzie into Bankruptcy, in my opinion.

Both are Great Machines:

The Breganzie will last forever with hands on were as the Suzuki was built of Sawdust.

Geexers were NOT friendly handling spokes.

Only had that Suzuki for a Summer (3 Months and sold her) Why! Because I preferred my SFO and that Geexer could not beat my SFO on our local race track (The Milnet HWY) and beside, I was sure I would eventually kill myself on that Geexer (Just about the same feeling every Motorcylists felt riding her as she seemed just TOO POSITIVE at SPEED - Really - Quite the Machine the 84 Suzuki GWX 1100R Kantana - Really ;o)

I've never experience a more STABLE, FASTER or ADRENALINE ride then that Geexer between Sudbury to Toronto and back on a midnight 1200 mile tour and be back to work in the morning ;o)

Gotta consider, I was born in 1948, 36 years old in 1984, Traffic Controller and doing long distant Midnight Runs on 2 wheels = So Jim - You got your Dispatch Orders and request Clearance to Fly ;o)

I did own a brand new 72 Dodge 340 Challenger Ralley (Sky Blue with Laser Stripes, Bulge Hood and Hemi Exhaust, 727 Auto with 2:72 posi rear end that would do 170 mph at 7200 rpm with my Engine Mods) The 727 tyranny was shit and #6 rod bearing always spun at 7600 rpm - I did FIX that thanks to Smoky Yunik and "shit can't remember his name - Yes "Allan Shepard" + a 70 635HP 7200 rpm 70 MK IV Z28 Camaro with a Muncie 21 and 12 Bolt Posi 3.73's.

My Favorite Car is the 1974 Volvo 140 GTL, Mechanical Pill Fuel Injection, manual 4 Spd with Hone OD - You don't need a battery to run her - Will run off the Alternator - Motor Trend Car of the Year - She beat the BMW 333i that year and I owned her - Sad story how I lost her ;o(

Other then American Cars I like the 69 Ford Lotus Cortina Vs the Datsun 510 and especially loved the 74 Toyota Crown.

At those speeds what about tyre growth due to centrifugal force. ?
Had a bike once that had two threaded holes in the front mudguard for mounting a front number plate. As a front plate was no longer needed, I screwed a couple of Phillip's head screws in for cosmetic purposes. The bottom of the screws wear abot 5mm clear of the tyre. At around 115 kph I heard a strange noise and on stopping found two grooves from the screws dug into the tyre. So just goes to prove that tyres do 'grow' due to centrifugal forces.

years ago in a moment of boredom i brought a magazine called Back street hero's, its customised bikes. I had look through the classifieds and a bloke in London was selling a hard tail Jota I think it was a Triumph frame and a Harley fuel tank, it had Brembo gold line brakes and MR1 forks.
Riding back home with a mate following in his brand new Toyota MR2 he came past me waving franticly, when i stopped on the hard shoulder he pulled in and his car was covered in oil and he said the bike was pouring out smoke that smelt like burning rubber, on closer inspection it was leaking oil from every orifice. But more worryingly the rear mudguard had a big stainless bolt going through it. The bolt had worn through the tyre as it got hotter and i got faster.
I ended up giving it to Ralph Allen in exchange for an engine rebuild on my series 1 Jota

I used to smell burning rubber on some occasions, later realised it was the front tyre burning a groove in the front mudguard.
If the tyre 'grows' that much then the speedo is reading less speed at the clock than you are actually doing due to the increased diameter of the front tyre. ( sorry to complicate matters chaps )..

Basically, it is a stock Jota engine, Witt ignition, cams timed, Jota pipes and collector, K+N filer, plus a cylinder head ported and polished with valve job way back in 1988 by Eldo Ferracci, (before he became famous) My Jota has 34'000 miles, original miles and only had the head off once for Eldo to do his magic, no engine upgrades simply regular maintenance it was still pulling away 7800rpm, but hey fair go I'm old 66, not as brave maybe stupid as I used to be. Bridgestone BT 45's at 130mph no one gives a fuck about rotational expansion or some such nonsense the tire is rated at 145+, just ride 'em as you love em. I am hoping to hit Bonneville this year RWB class(run what you brung) still could be a contender in 70"s Superbike Class, Cheers Dave

Just put a 30T rear sprocket on and it will go even faster? The engine power must suit the overall gearing to get anywhere. For the given power pretty much the only thing that will give higher speed is less weight and/or air or rolling resistance, add as many gears as you like but it has to be able to rev out.
