extra deep 36 socket

HI,

any idea where to buy an extra deep 36 socket to undo the nut behind the generator? I have only found complete sets for around 150?, and I can't find a nut of 20x1.25 to built a locking tool for the crank...

Look for 36mm box spanner in Google.
I found one easily as soon as I was told how it was called.

Hi!
mmh.. I thought about using a box spanner, but how do you apply the impact gun to it? the problem is that I don't have a nice way to hold the crank, so the plan was to use a ratle gun

Grey Pneumatic 2036XMD Socket. 36mm extra deep socket. I use an impact gun no problem. Works perfectly About $50USD on Amazon.

Hey!

thank you, however the item is unavailable. I actually found some of those as single sockets, but only in US, so is not worthy to send it to Europe, due expensive shipping plus customs... So I need to find one in EU.

I found this set which is until now my best option:

It shouldn't be that tight Miguel unless it's been Loctited on. The nut is usually fairly easy to undo, left hand thread don't forget.

if you are contemplating buying a socket it will have to be a very, very deep one, not a standard deep one, and be sure to get a six point type as the contact on a twelve point one will be far inferior and then you still have to go to an engineering shop and get 4 or 5mm turned off the entry end, because usually the lead in taper on the socket is about the same width as the very thin nut, a box spanner is almost square at the end.

as mentioned LEFT HAND THREAD

Hi Miguel..be careful with some 36mm deep sockets. Some are not deep enough to fit over the crankshaft and others have a shoulder inside that prevents the socket getting on that nut. I went through two or three 36mm deep sockets that did not fit. Easy returns on Amazon.

That "extra deep" is important to get over the crank and fit the nut.

This may work. Inquire with the seller as to the unobstructed depth of the socket?

I just said all that two minutes ago, the item shown may not be long enough and is 12 point, = inferior, but probably will still work

Hey Migel, I dont know if you have "plumbers sockets" in local hardware stores. I have used them in the past on that crankshaft nut. They have a size that work okay if the nut is not too tight. About $10 here in the USA,

I think that I found mine on Amazon, unfortunately.
I used a normal socket on the other end of the box socket for the rattle gun if I remember correctly.

Paul.

Well, I haven't even approached the nut, I don't know yet if its super hard or not  somehow I already "know" that she will fight me. But I will give it a try with a ring spanner or those plumber sockets, available from my neighbour Domingo.

If it doesn't work, I will start to search the heavy ammo. I still think that those 12cm extra deep socket should do the work, I need around 7/8 cm of free deepness.

mmh that sounds like a good trick, I will try it, I guess the impact socket has to be at least 37 or 38...?

If you use this one:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gedore-G26R30X36MM-Spanner-30Mm-621315/dp/B000UYTQ60/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=36mm+box+spanner&qid=1604616038&sr=8-5

you could either use a 30mm Allen driver in the other end.
Alternatively, just weld a smaller 1/2" socket in the 30mm end. Job's a good un.

Do you have a welder? If yes, just buy an ordinary cheapo 36mm socket, which you can usually buy individually from hardware suppliers (ie. you don't have to buy a full socket set). Cut off the square drive bit and weld in a piece of pipe to extend it. Instant home made deep socket.  :D

I made mine out of a short socket, cut it in half and welded in a short section of old fork tube to extend the length. Doesn't need to be pretty or particularly strong to undo/tighten the nut.

That's the one I bought.
30mm socket and rattle gun.
