Flooding in the Pacific Northwest

It's wet in the North West of NSW where I am, I had to drive across causeways with 200mm of rain to get to the local tip and I am heading home early because the river will cross the road soon and cut the town off. I have another small load for the tip but I risked crossing that causeway twice, going and coming and that's enough risk for me today. So wet both sides of the Pacific Ocean. It's an El Nino event year for sure.

Think an El Nina has been declared, the opposite to El Nino, wet wet wet.
Whereabouts in NW NSW are you Vince? Throws us other state bods off when Forbes is called Central West NSW when it is in fact in eastern NSW :unsure:
 
The highway is closed now at Gunnedah, and the floodwater will flow down the Namoi River for 150ks closing rds as it comes to where I am now. The alternative route is via Dubbo and is 200ks longer. So it's a race between me the floodwaters and the next big town Narrabri, and there are local rd closers there as to whether I get back to Sydney or sit it out for a couple of weeks. It's been maybe 20 years since I was last stuck here in similar circumstances.
 
Whereabouts are you Vince? Sounds like somewhere on the Namoi River between Gunnedah and Narrabri. It's been a while since I've been through there, but I think it's all pretty flat country for miles around. If your house is on high enough ground to not be in danger flooding and you have sufficient supplies, it might be best to stay put until the water recedes. Better to be stuck at home than half way to somewhere else. Could be a bugger if the floodwaters cut power though. You might have to resort to medieval style cooking.

All this flooding around the world makes me glad I don't live in a flood prone location.
 
No dramas with the town it had a Levy Bank for 30 years since they had a very wet year and the town got inundated twice in 6 months, which triggered the levy being built and my family selling up there out of town farms and houses and buying inside the Levy. So no water in the town's houses and shops but it will be cut off and isolated till the water flows down to the next place Walgett, then Burke etc etc till it hits the Bight in South Oz maybe 3 months later. BTW this is event No1, in wet years there will be more events when more rain happens. BTW I am back in Sydney after a painful 750k drive, lots of long straight boring roads with road works and unpassable trucks galore.
 
Trouble is there will come a point when it is unaffordable to keep rebuilding it after every storm and flood.
Time to flog the Jota/SFC and go out and buy yourself an Atlas, Chott or LH3/4.....
