Gravity is not your friend

Just doubling down on my error yesterday thinking Atlas carbys were downdraft in the V6 carby thread and bleeding non-hydraulic drum brakes was in the same vein. Bleeding veins again. Engish is just so funny.

Magura make a hydraulic rim brake for bicycles (like a std caliper cable-operated brake with pads rubbing on the rim) - I fail to see the reasoning ... imagine if your Lav drums were hydro operated! Oh, I'm sure it would make a huge difference

Cable friction is probably the number one culprit in reducing brake efficiency. There were numerous motorbikes with cable operated discs in the early days, and the cable operated handbrake on many cars is a regular service item at least here where moisture in the cable freezes in winter. You must surely see all the social media bullshit about rim vs disc bicycle brakes, a super lightweight hydraulic rim brake system would definitely sell amongst some of the fanatics. Lots of people have been saved by their helmet even with cable operated rim brakes.

The amount of pad compression with a rim brake is a big factor in lever travel - c/w a disc pad (no compression at all). Maybe we need rod operated disc brakes on motos?!! MotoGP bike with rods and levers like an old pre-way Raleigh bicycle

It's a fine balance finding massive braking power and excellent feel - so we don't deck it every time we grab a handful in an emergency (especially in the wet) ... the ability to brake hard and confidently in a corner is not something inherent in every brake design.

Doubling down: as in halving? Or Doubling up as in ?redoubling efforts? ? I can never quite get around the new jargon... ??? ???

I think "double down" is an Americanism that's slowly creeping into Australian speech. It makes no sense to me. If you double something, surely you end up with twice as much of whatever it is. So the quantity goes up, not down.

To my understanding Doubling Down is a Gambling term that means to continue to do a losing strategy beyond sensible limits. Repeating to loose or go down, Muiltipying a negative, its got wider connotations these days. I vaguely remember a Gambling System, now there is an Oxymoron, where you double the bet every time you lose. Something to do with Statistics and Probability. Sounds dumb to me

As usual almost right.

While we're off topic , here we have a double double at the drive through coffees, double cream, double sugar.

My adjustable ratio. AP master makes getting the appropriate feel and lever travel spot on, assuming you?ve bled the brakes properly.

I would like to go back to the Brembo carbon ceramic but locally ferodo is the best I could get.

So this begs the question. Current set up of brembo 09 calipers and floating discs (genuine setup) linked to a gsxr 750 radial master cylinder.  Which is better, ABS or a variable ratio master cylinder.  Which one is going to stop me crashing?  Abs would require a new motorcycle, variable m/c might make a difference in a panic situation?
