Handle bar change recommendations

HI,

I have a 1979 Jarama, it's a beaut and love it, it has the Raask Jota style bars and I have them set in the traditional drop position, they look brilliant, I'd like to explore using a more upright bar in the yokes, I'm sure I could alter and reposition the existing ones but wondered if anyone had tried different bars and had any recommendations,
I just completed a long day trip around Scotland and confess to a few aches after several hours in the drop position,

Hi Russty, a friend of mine mounted the bars of a Honda CB750 Four to his 1000 3C. They are chromed and not too wide - he is very happy with the riding position now. Ciao, Gert

I could never get a comfortable hand position with 3-part standard Laverda Bars, so I removed the small middle section of my Laverda Bars and added a big bolt and niloc to connect the 2 other bits. I then added 25mm spacers between the upper triple tree and the bars. I now have it high enough to save my back and wrist angle, which is very comfy. It just looks a bit Heath Robinson. At one point, I tried multi-adjustable 38mm Clipons with 75mm lift, but it never could clear my Fairing.

Thanks Vince, I'm going to start with a conventional pair with a rise and see how it goes, I really like the drop look for all rhe short journeys it's just when you spend a few hours it starts to get uncomfortable (not admitting aging..)

Sit on the bike in a position that suits you, with your hands where they feel confortable. Sitting more upright than the original drop bars, and the hands a bit further back I should think.
Get someone to measure and look for bars.

Only issue I had was the length of the left hand switchgear wiring.

Not higher than the bars I had on the bike, but wider, so I could pull them back a bit and take the weight off my hands and wrists. No problems with the original wiring or cables in my case.

Usually cut som length off them, I find thrm too wide as they come. Used to be called European touring bars.

Fit anything you're comfortable with! Longer clutch and throttle cables, as well as brake lines, were fitted to the 1200s if needed.

You'll be surprised how lithe and agile the beast becomes with some decent leverage, compared to those racy foolish original bars!

The Rask bars can be adjusted to give a more upright position. Doesn't look right but is much easier on the body.

These work for me, lots of different bars out there, so... make friends with the counter person and try before you buy, a few different bars for fit and size, good luck.

 

[Laverda SF]

All Breganzies used Japanese handle bars Honda 750CB to Suzuki. Some Jap bars are longer but you can cut them to length.
Then again you can go for adjustable Brevs or Clip On.

Just bend and warp any handle bar to suit your style riding a Breganzie - Same goes for peg and shifter locations - Laverda left it up to you ;o)

Laverda was in my opinion the 1st Motorcycle Co. to offer to the public intro to Cafe Racing and their 3Cyls where King of the Road for a over Decade. You can not compare a Breganzie to the progress of modern motorcycles unless you have owned one. They are rather antiquated by today's standard but man what rush ;o)

Very appreciative of the feedback and advice, I'm going to try a pair of low rise Renthal bars I've found in black, I reckon they should look good and sit me up, the Look for me is important but being comfortable is the goal, some pics of before, I'll post some after pics

While you're at it, you might consider junking that quick-action throttle... or are you going racing?

A light throttle action not only enhances modulation, but also contributes to counter fatigue on longer runs. I our case, every little bit counts!

It came with the bike, never considered replacing it, good tip, it's italian 99.9% looks important
