Headlamp brackets

Hi, I`m restoring a SF1 and the bike has had the headlight brackets shortened by a previous owner, Could somebody please tell me the total length so I don`t have to wait to start re-assembling it, thanks

Hi, they have been hack-sawed and not very well hack-sawed, I have not assembled the front end to check how much is missing and I want to send parts off for re-chroming (including the brackets) before I do.

SF1 and 2 and 3 have the same length brackets, only SF1 accommodate 35mm tubes and most SF2 38mm, and all SF3, 38mm.

Never bothered to check but how do the 2s and 3s with the 38s accommodate the stepped top clamp using the same length as the 35mm non-stepped ones?

I don't think the stepped top yolk was a Laverda fitted part.
I have a factory produced chart of fork tube lengths for all models and it doesn't show different lengths for the same model types, which indicates non stepped yolks for all models, could be wrong though, anyone who wants a copy of this , just send me an A4 SAE and you will get a photocopy, and for an extra thirty dollars I will personally sign it, which is half what Phil Read charges currently when every other known star does it for free)

.....and the length is ???? ::)

140mm to which you must add around 4mm of rubber ring and alloy spacer.

Don't tell me you wanted a simple answer to a simple question here.

If that's the case, keep it really simple like "is hydrochloroquine really effective against Covid 19?". Answer is of course, no.
Or "are Donald Trump and half of the American people raving nutters?" Answer is of course, yes.

Is humanity doomed in the short term?

As in SF2

A longer steering stem doesn't make the headlight supports longer. That must be a foreign top clamp you have there Tippie. We're not like that.

Interesting though, we'll have to write another f...ing book.

My SF2 has 35 mm tubes and a flat top clamp.
I have a spare 38mm fork off an SF2 and it has stepped top clamp.
The top clamp on my 3C is flat.

Now for chapter 2: until which frame number was the metal choke lever fitted? Until which frame number was the metal choke lever with facets as opposed to round section fitted?

Aren't we talking about an SF2, Paul???? I mentioned that the brackets might be shorter on an SF2 than an SF1 and I think it's pretty clear that they are! I have never seen an SF2 that didn't have these stepped Ceriani clamps fitted and I've never seen an SF1 with a stepped top clamp. Even the 35mm SF2 disc models had that stepped top clamp.

All the poster wants to do is sort the length of the brackets for his SF1. Hopefully we'll help him get there!

So what you are saying is the steel 35mm ID tubes are 140mm in length plus 4mm rubber ring and a undisclosed thickness alloy spacer.... too easy....

I can measure the alloy spacer for you if you want - found one loose among my decades of Lav stuff in various boxes!  I'd reckon it's only about 2mm from recent memory. Lemme know if you want the exact mm.
