Help needed from NJ owners. Cant title bike

Not sure how JPQ is making out, but received my Historic registration today for the SF2.
$44.00 and will renew at no charge every 2 years.

I have 2 Laverdas, both 1978, both triples. I will take my chances; in 45 years of speeding tickets in California, not once did the officer ever look for an engine or frame number.
A CHP officer near King City on the 101 wrote on the ticket he gave me back in the 90s, he listed the bike as a Lagrondo, I should have contested that ticket. Next year, they will both be registered in Idaho, $33 a year, plus a one-time first-year title fee of $14.
Do you need an LLC set up to register in Idaho like the Ferrari guys do for Montana reg?

I see what you mean…
I know it's a old thread, but when I came across it I remembered that I had a run in with this guy on Facebook, when I called him out on his BS, the conversation quickly got very abusive and personal attacks. I was so disappointed when he blocked me. He has form with his behaviour and attitude. He has some nice bikes all told, but a real shitty attitude. Money buys you nice thing's, but he hasn't learnt from kindergarten how to play nicely with others. Shame really, I hope he gets help. Tracking his 98MY Formula will expedite the inevitable rebuild...

I'm in NJ and just last year titled & registered a 750 SF2 which came with a Tennessee title. It's my second Laverda titled in NJ. It has a 5-digit VIN while my 3C has a 4-digit VIN.

I used the DMV office in Newton, NJ

Suggest you try a different NJ MVC office.
I also used Newton. You have a Breganze Laverda which is listed as a different manufacturer than the later Zane bikes like mine. My VIN is completely unrecognized by NJ. Tried both Newton and Springfield

Any odd restrictions for Historic rego in the USA, interested in comparing with our system in OZ.
Very difficult to answer as each of the fifty states set their own rules as to car and bike registration. There is no USA standard, the states can do whatever they want. If California says you can't register any bike made in 1956 that is green but red and blue are OK, then that is the law.

So I can only speak for California as that is where I live. Here old cars and bikes are treated the same as something made in 2026. No discounts on fees or any other special things. You can for older cars and bikes get a "Horseless Carriage" or "Historical Vehicle" license plate but you still pay the same fees to register it and with these license plates you can not use the car or bike as daily transportation. It can only be used for club rides or display purposes.

As 1200ts says each of the 50 states has its own set of rules.

In NJ you submit a side view and front view photos along with a form and a one-time fee. Then re-register every two years at no charge.

Supposed to only use the vehicle for 'special events' and on weekends, holidays etc. Or if you need to 'test ride' for any reason. So that's the loophole that lets you ride at anytime.

Any owners on here from New Jersey? The state will not title or register my 1999 750S Formula because they cant even find Laverda as a manufacturer in their system. Need to know how you got it done. Thanks
JPQ, were you ever successful in obtaining a NJ title? After years of occasionally riding my '52 Saturno with a borrowed plate I recently decided to make it legal. Like you, I'm struggling with the NJMVC. They absolutely refuse to recognize Gilera as a legitimate manufacturer.
I do have a NY address too, so that's probably my next step.

The MVC in Newton again rejected the bike and told me Laverda (Zane era only) is an unrecognized manufacturer in this state. There is no way to title it regardless of its NHTSA record. Piaggio, who technically owns the brand will not assist

Bugger, what do you do now? It’s a debacle that’s for sure.
