The story unfolds.... I'm writing this from cafe centrale in Breganze, which I'm pleased about, even though I'm 2 days late for the action.
My bike came here from the unscheduled 'stop' in central France on my trailer, over 2 days. No worries, even came over the Col De Mont Cenis, which I love.
On the way I thought to myself, I'm going to try everything I can to ride this bike on the streets if its hometown, so took it straight to Oro's.
We took it apart this pm and here is what was found...
- 3 x M6 stud/nuts were nowhere near tight enough. But basically in place. Not unwound.
_ key shared.
_ end of 1 cam completely fucked. To be thrown away. Keyway area chunked away.
- 1 cam bearing cage (pressing) falling apart.
Overall, no mass destruction.
The M6 (flange) nuts had cheap and nasty star washers underneath them. I suspect this is the root cause of all the issues.
I had a good look at the end of the cam and could not see any typical fatigue crack progression or spiraling torsion cracking. Very unusual patterns. I even suspect a bit of welding here(?)
So, I'm determined, I FUCKING WELL WILL RIDE THIS BIKE IN BREGANZE. Hold me to it guys.
if that happens and jane is a darling, she migh drive the car and trailer half way home and I can ride the bike a while before the boring flat and straight French bit starts. I think I need to buy her something very expensive in Venice....
I'll keep you posted.
Hag. Still happy with it all.
