very sad news, as I was gleefully trundling up the A3 from Portsmouth today, at a steady 56MPH, having met with ILOC member Darren Harper and bought some bits from him (many thanks for the nod Ian, it worked out good) feeling very happy to have a used but mint correct blue tint screen on board for TOG, and well chuffed with meself, Radio 2 shut down half way through a tune and announced the death of HRH Queen Elizabeth the second.

Instant mood change, even feeling a bit tearfull, so long on the throne and so much good, with never ever overstepping the mark, (remember the "its a royal knockout" if you like overstepping) not even in the James Bond sequence at the opening of the 2012 olympics, she just made us all actually believe in the fairy tale that is 007 " your majesty" he said on entering the drawing room at Buck palace to escort her to the helicopter, "Ah Mr Bond" she replied.

She was already queen consort when I was born in May 1952, later crowned in 1953, so there has never ever been another monarch in my lifetime until now 70 and a bit years later

may she rest in peace
GOD SAVE THE KING!

The passing of an era that is for sure.
Not sure we will see the likes of her ever again.

No matter your views, you cant help but acknowledge the tireless work she has put in for her country, charities, family and the Commonwealth.
As for the Republic, Im sure our time will come but now is not the time to be soapboxing.

Well done Elizabeth.
Nice job.

Like it or not, humans en masse need figures of compassion and continuity to provide a kind of point of reference in a rather shitty changing world. In a republic, who fulfils that role? Some despotic dictator, career politician, soap star, social media influencer, dodgy property tycoon, self-anointed bishop, God, guy with biggest gun? Careful what you wish for and remember it's not all just about you.

One of the few good and courageous world leaders that actually deserved the love and respect of her people. A live well lived. RIP Liz. Condolences to our UK friends.

King Charles now has a pretty high standard to live up to, but I think he'll do OK. He's been preparing for it all of his life and he seems like a decent sort of bloke.

I was a little surprised to read a headline that said something like "Shock death of QEII". It can hardly have been a shock. She was 96 and the poor old dear lost the will to live when Phillip died last year. It seemed to me that her fire in her boiler went out when Phil died, and the dwindling head of steam could only keep her going for a short time.

I think it was because Elizabeth II had been on the throne so long, to many people her death was a concept that just didn't compute. Hence a shock.
I am not a particular fan of the royals, but like around 95%+ of the world I have great respect for her tireless dedication to duty and to the commonwealth. Even in her last couple of days alive she made the supreme effort to meet the new UK prime minister face to face, that is the measure of her as she must have been extremely ill.
So now we have King Charles III, who will probably have to stop speaking to plants and try to emulate his mother!

Pompous prick….. I don’t like him.

Sad news about Lizzie though, yeah yeah, I’ve taken the piss out of her before but she seemed like a good old stick.

The Poms must be sick of hearing about her departure… the media is doing it to death here (pardon pun)
actually he's responsible for me doing my masters in science, he wrote a ridiculous article about god and biotechnology back in 1998, which made me say screw that, I need to learn about this. I don't use the science degree I studied for , but in a way I should thank him for pissing me off enough me get further educated.
