Insurance companies?

Hi
I’m having trouble getting quotes to insure my 81 Jota. I used to be with Shannon’s but a call yesterday only recognised the 3CL and then only with a market value of .. wait for it … $750.00 .. I said they could use my hysterical response in the recorded phone call for their training.
NRMA sound promising but I’m waiting for a more formal quote; all the other big players I’ve tried ( QBE, CGU, Youi, Elders) have computers that say No.
I’m in Melbourne (Australia) and any leads gratefully received 🙏

Insurance in my jurisdiction is unique in the western world. One insurance company, the government, mandatory for everything but optional specified perils coverage. Special classic coverage license plates for ‘pleasure use’ only, no ‘to work’ travel allowed, premiums based on current realistic retail replacement. My plate covers multiple machines, 5 classics, $510 Cdn a year.

Thanks Steve, I like the 1 plate covers a few idea - very civilised

I have multiple vehicles insured through Shannons. Many on club rego which reduces the premium.

My Jota 1981 S2 is insured for just over $38,000.
Its a figure they came up with, and when I inquired I was told by Shannons that they follow the Market and adjust values accordingly.

I'm not amused that you were treated so flippantly by a Shannons rep who obviously didn't know the market.

Hello Karl,

Shannons is the way to fly, but obviously not via the idiot you dealt with.........Ask for the team leader.
you got the horses arse and not the horses head! (y)

Shannons have a big warehouse in Artamon that I pass regularly and you see some fantastic vehicles through the open doors and I wondered why.
Yep.
Even better if you can show them the bike. They doubled the value of mine after seeing it a couple of years after I started my policy.

Hey Karl, I agree with what's been said about Shannons. Their bike guys know their stuff. You must have spoken to the cleaner.

I have all my vehicles and house insured with them. Their premiums are very competitive and they're easy to deal with. They index the insured value of my bikes each year according to market value. I just logged into my account and they currently have my Jota valued at $24,428. That's a reasonable value for a well-used and slightly scruffy patinaed bike. The last time I looked several years ago, it was around $15,000, so they must keep an eye on the market.

Thanks for the info Ian. I’ll give them another chance.

Thanks D.. great info , it does sound like I was jinxed by the janitor.. I’ll give them another crack of the sav.
Mines a tidy 81 S2 with 24k so I’m looking for a fair agreed value.

Shannons are going downhill fast, I have everything with them. But they wanted to put up my home and contents by 25%. Told them to stick it. Might be moving my bikes as well.

NRMA did my home and contents much cheaper than Shannon's did before they wanted to put it up, and that is for an increased amount.

As well as calling other options like NRMA, just call Shannons again, you must have had an idiot the first time.
I've been happy with them over the years but get the feeling it's as Marty says and they're going downhill fast. Bought out by Suncorp and gone too mainstream, same old story.

Well, I was very happy with my visit to Shannon’s, after my online attempt for a quote crashed and burned.
I now have the everyday MV on comprehensive, as is the classic rego Morini, as well as the Bandit, Le Mans and 1100 Sport on layover cover for about $1100. My eldest daughter is an insurance broker and she could not get me better cover pricing.

Single plate cover is something we should agitate for - other countries manage it, Canada mentioned and I think maybe Belgium does as well. Every time you register another vehicle as a sole operator you’re cross-subsidising the 3rd party insurance system…
