Jota Battery

G'day Tim. Welcome to the forum.

Pretty good summary.

Yes, I can confirm that. Left the ignition on overnight. Killed the lithium battery stone dead. It was only a few months old. A bit pissed off with myself.

a Lithium-ion battery built into the casing of a classic 1960's BMW had exploded, due to an incorrect trickle charging type / system.

I've been told by a lithium battery expert: NEVER put a lithium battery on a trickle charger. They don't trickle charge. If you want to top up a Lithium, put it on a normal smart charger for a little while, then take it off again. Don't leave it on charge unattended.

Cheers,

According to the SSB lithium batteries tech notes they [SSB] can be charged with a normal run of the mill car battery charger.
I've used my normal battery charger on all my batteries over the years, that is Odyssey and Deka AGM and never had a problem with them.
They have all lasted many years. Just replaced the Dekas in the Motodd and GSBM with SSB lithium after 5 years service.
The Deks out of the Motodd is still good so it will replaced the 12 year old Oddyssy sitting in the SFC.

You got me worried about my Lithium Batteries for the grass trimmer (they were NOT cheap to buy).
After about 4 months of being ignored they still show full charge - phew!

I had the Li-ion (I think that's what it is) battery go completely in my hedge trimmer while it was in storage last year.  Checked with the manufacturer (Stihl) and they said their batteries should be left in a cool-ish (but not freezing) environment but about half charged, not fully.  I did charge the old battery up before it was stored.  Mind you, it had worked really hard for about 5 years so I can't complain.

I'm about to replace the RGS's battery and will fit an Odyssey PC625 like I had in my 180.  Spins it up really quick and fits well.

I put one of these cut to size under mine Dingo.
