Syria was apparently also a market for Laverda police bikes.  Those that remained are probably under a pile of rubble by now...

Seems the Arabian countries preferred roller bearing cranks/engines over plain bearings, were able to handle dirt and sand a lot better. :D

Thx Hooksey had a few upgrades since.
The guy I bought it from ,Jim Pike, was told by the Pom,Robert Emrys Jones from Liverpool, that it was one of Gadaffi's,s escort bikes. Great story if it is true.
Looks and goes great these days. Had only 20k on the clock when I got it.
Luv riding it.
How's your fleet of Lavs going?still got the sf?

Crank got a bit cranky, so just had it re furbished, running it in as we speak 8)

That story about Gadaffi is a bewdy.... keep that alive and expand on it as the yrs go by! ;)
 
Thanks very much for your help guys. I'm not overly fussed about the alternator / generator issue but if I can find an alternator just to keep it as original as possible then that'll go on. I'll check out the Craven panniers and then see if I can emulate the CHIPS / Village people look with the jodhpurs  and handlebar moustache ! I'll post photos of the restoration as it progresses !

Be aware the alternator requires a special belt cover, about 12mm longer than the stock one.  Rare as hens' teeth...

Two normal belt covers + band saw + welding + grinding + polishing = solved

Much more easier than to find an 36 PHB or an left side crankshaft for an Electronica.

Wow! Some great pics. the big mongrel on the red one makes it look like my old 50cc Vespina!! I reckon I'm half his size! And the desert one looks like it's almost fossilizing.
 
It fun to see waht these old cop bikes look like. I was seeing some pics a few years back of a couple of TL Pantah Italian cop bikes in Oz. Seems Ian Gowanlock brought them in and one was appearing at bike shows. We were mid Snowy Run at Khancoban when a bunch of Italian bikes turned up and one was that ex cop Pantah, complete right down to the siren and lights. We had a chat, seems its owned by a young bloke conected to the Bevel spares shop in Canberra.
