I would like to find an original Laverda 1000 tool kit and patch, complete if possible. I have a great bike but no tool kit under the seat.

many thanks

My bike didnt have one when I bought it so I ended up buying Max Eades tool kit out of his SFC Triple, he owned the Major shop selling Laverdas in Sydney back then. To be honest the only tool in that kit I ever used was the long tube spanner and tommy bar for pulling spark plugs and that wasn't so special anyway. The spanners were pretty crap quality. Get yourself a strong bag and make up your own kit of proper quality tools. Finding a bag that lasts is not so easy or the best size. I bought a couple of what I hoped were strong Vynal pencil case bags, that I hoped would last longer than the previous tool roll, nope they lasted about a month. completely made guess where crap. So a plug spanner, multi-tip screwdriver, multitool, a wheel nut spanner, and your typical 8,10, 11 for exhaust nuts,12,13,17mm ring open enders and my go-to needle-nose vice-grips. And one of those Pen Knife alan key gadgets. What always surprises me is how many take a Multimeter, gas soldering iron and electrical bits. Add a Spark Plug, fuses, spare nuts and bolts. Clutch Cable. Small can of Chain lube And the Hail Mary can of Finnyleak flat tyre repair in a can. What have I missed, Buller, Buller? Add to the list if you carry other bits.

A length of Tie wire, pinched some fencing wire over the years as a last resort as well. Handy to have something to cut it.

I can't speak for later bikes, but I've had no problems with the quality of the toolkit that came with mine.
Testament to Paul Marx's influence it even included a points file, on a CDI equipped motorcycle.
Not quite complete, some little scrote stole the 10/11 and 12/13, from the seat, back in the late 70's. It is comprehensive and capable of completing routine maintenance tasks.
The only things I don't use are the oil bottle, and the plug spanner, as it requires tank removal. The one I carry doesn't.
The Owner's Handbook with complete Parts List is also extremely useful.

come on Hamish, those tools might be embossed "SUPERIOR" but they are crap quality and would not do any every day long term usage, my tool kit came from a BMW boxer that was in a breakers nearby many years ago, it was a bit of a joke that those BMW's never break down so when they end up in the breakers, the tool kit is usally still as wrapped at the factory. The quality is about the same as the lavs, very usefull but for emeregency type jobs.

Clem,
DIN 895 is crap? I have DIN 895 open end wrenches that have seen decades of hard use, still within tolerance.
Agree that BMW tool kits from the older vehicles are not top notch, but still better than anything I've seen
made in PRC. Just what do you consider the bees knees?

I've still got most of my SF1 tools - and the oil bottle, which gets regular use. Compared to a Jap toolkit in the day the Lav stuff was first class.

BTW, I need a 27mm box the same style as the 36mm Lav one used for the cush drive nut - for my Rr axle. Any idea where I would find such an animal?

Don't have complete toolkit for mine but I do have at least a couple of the original spanners.
When I was trying to sell it recently I posted a pic of under the seat and an interested party was asking questions and then mentioned that they noticed some rusty old tools with the bike:eek::rolleyes: (Indignant, Me!?)

My mantra for dealing with nuts and bolts is sockets first, ring spanners next and if not available, open enders and if in really dire straits, an adjustable spanner last.
And on the bike ring/open ender combos.

I don't think I've ever bought a second-hand bike that came with a tool kit. Occasionally the crappy little plastic tool bag would be there, but most of its contents would have evaporated. On one occasion when I bought a new bike, the tool kit it came with was pretty crap and needed adding to. I always make up my own kits.
