My LAVERDA friend and racer Bernhard wants to sell his fantastically build up LAVERDA 1200 race bike. One of the strongest and fastest LAVERDA three-cylinder racers in Austria. Definitely not for the scared!

A few technical data:
Engine: Hirschegger Tuning, 1130 ccm, forged pistons 81mm, 4/C camshafts, shortened crankshaft, reinforced clutch, large oil cooler. Power: 100 rear wheel hp / 98 Nm. Carburetor: Mikuni RS 40 mm flat slide with long, open velocity stacks (TOPHAM). Exhaust: 3-1 made of stainless steel with 45 mm down pipes and resonance megaphone. Electrics: reduced wiring harness, DMC ignition, Dynavolt ignition coils, LiFePo battery, SRA Scitsu rev counter. Chassis: Marzocchi 38 mm fork with HH-Racetech cartridge (fully adjustable), K&J rear swing arm with eccentric adjuster, Wilbers Racing shock absorber (fully adjustable), Brembo brake calipers, floating brake discs in front, Lucas rear sets, super light glass fiber tank (Boba), Sulzbacher fairing, SFC hump seat. Papers: Austrian type certificate, frame and engine numbers matching. This 1200 was originally a black and gold 30th anniversary 1200, delivered in 1979 by Sulzbacher / Austrian importer.

Negotiation basis: EUR 15000

I will be happy to send you a detailed description and many photos - email me: gert.schnoegl@netway.at

Great looking bike. What category of racing would it qualify for? BEARS maybe? Although I guess it would need a belly pan catch tank to go back on the race track now.

I doubt it would comply with period classic racing because of the Mikuni flat slide carbs and floating disks. Well, that would be the case in Australia anyway. Not sure about the rules in Europe.

I agree with PB2 - it would make an awesome (if somewhat uncompromising) road bike if it could be made to comply with road registration requirements. I reckon that could be a bureaucratic headache in some countries, given all the departures from original spec.

Hi Dellortoman, the rules in Europe vary from organizer to organizer. Bernhard had never troubles with the Mikunis or floating discs. Ciao, Gert

Race bike ?
What about weight Gert ?
Hi Steph, if you have doubts about this 1200 being a race bike I invite you for a test ride!
We all know that it is not easy to bring the weight of a LAVERDA triple race bike under 200 kg without using materials like carbon and titan and breaking the rules of classic racing. Bernhards bike is about 195 kg race ready.

Gert, great bike! We are so fastidious due to the engines Red builds that 100HP on the rear wheel does maybe not sound much to them...

I built a similar engine with SFC-Spec head and it has the same results (100,xHP and 100,x Nm on the rear wheel), so it also does not look to spectacular to me, too. But it is still a very nice bike and with 195kgs (and an accordingly light pilot that knows how to ride it), it is for sure a great and harmonic bike.

Counting what you need to pay to bring a bike to that stage, the 15.000€ do sound fair to me. Buing a half decend bike and modify it accordingly costs more.

Lothar, when it comes to tuning, Red moves in a completely different dimension, you should not compare that with our work. The engine of Berhards 1200 is running since 2012. Only problem was a broken gearbox mainshaft.
Ciao, Gert

only one broken gearbox mainshaft, that is a bugger, we broke at least 6, broke 2 in one weekend at Mac Park :(
nice bike Gert, hope it sells

Hi Gert
I do not have any doubts .. as I don't know nothing about triples :)
I was just curious about weight.. that's all.
Thanks for the info.
Cheers
Stéphane

And why would you want to put a purpose built race bike on the rd........ makes no sense 🧐
Ah, cos it would make a snorty road bike! Why hot up a 3C and call it a Jota? Race bikes usually have very high quality adjustable suspenders, which certainly translate well to the road - engines can be detuned a tad to make them perfect as spirited road engines. Just my two bob's worf

I agree, but who ever said motorcycles should make sense? What makes even less sense is modern sports bikes like Ducati Panigale with 200 HP that'll do in excess of 300 kph. They'd barely get above idle speed in normal road use, but there are a lot of people who want them and buy them. I guess the reason is because it's fun.

I reckon if motorcycles hadn't been invented, but someone just now came up with the idea of putting a massively powerful engine between two wheels, they'd be ridiculed for inventing such a ridiculous and dangerous form of transport. The idea would never be allowed on the road.

They even make dirtbikes out of them. I doubt anyone will with this bike though. Hopefully it keeps on racing.
