Laverda 650 breaking for spares, most parts available including good running engine and gearbox.

I was looking for some parts that I couldn't find so ended up buying a complete bike in fairly good condition.
Engine and gearbox work fine, I have used the bike but now the MOT has run out so I am sadly breaking it.
The ECU has been chipped and the bike has Muller silencers. I also have some silencers and bodywork from a 650 Formula I had many years ago.

Breganze bikes have always been broken into parts, especially by two dealers (one in UK and one in Germany), sometimes even running bikes. Re-production of most of the parts has kicked in years ago (except for casted engine parts like heads, barrels, engine cases, which are mostly saveable if all pars are there - see what Keith, OCT, Redax and others do...). No need really to brake a Breganze...

Zane parts are also fairly well available. As their prices even in running condition are sometimes so cheap that braking them and selling parts you don't need is unfortunately cheaper, especially if you need several parts, which is here the case I think. Shame, they are really nice bikes that - once you get used to them - are really great to ride...

A lot more people than that breaking Breganze bikes.
And since the price of complete bikes has fallen and the cost of restoring them has remained stable, wrecks will rarely be restored. To which you add the bikes not being ridden and the inheritors of owners passed away not being interested, parts will be plentiful.
The fact that Breganze bikes are virtually infinitely repairable interest no doubt less than 100 people on this planet, only the people who ride them any sort of distance regularly. To need repairing, they need wearing out.

believe it or not, they even break when not ridden...

oh - and this forum has several thousand of owners worldwide. The number of engines repaired per year at OCT exceeds for sure something like 30 - 40, not counting the other repairs (and looking at Redax, I think there are more engines getting back on the street than your number of 100 every year really...). But I agree, the interest for our bikes is decreasing, many of them are not selling (except the real gems). Glad mine are running now... 😉

I suspect that a lot of people are having perfectly good engines repaired.
The people doing the "repairing" aren't going to complain.

That's pretty much bullshit, Paul.

You need to see the wrecks that pass over the OCT, Laverda Scozia, Redax, etc workbenches, you'll quickly change your mind. Unless flogging a (nearly) dead horse is your form of motorcycling enjoyment. ;)

It is clear that breaking this bike has upset a few people so I will explain further. Many years ago I bought a rolling chassis that wasn't in good condition and I understand the engine had blown up, so no real problem there the seller was having trouble finding a buyer. I wanted to build a lookalike of the Norton F1, which has a similar rolling chassis. The project has moved on a lot and most of my rolling chassis is tatty. As such I wanted a really tidy rolling chassis but couldn't find one, hence the purchase of a complete bike. I thought by offering the bits for sale would help to keep other Laverdas on the road. For what I paid for the bike, this will not be a profit making venture, but when it is finished I will have a unique bike. Hopefully some Laverda owners will also have some much needed parts.

Ray,
With something small like a choke cable it always seems to me that after Ebay have added their cut it just makes them a bit expensive. It looks ok and seems to slide freely. I will have to check how much postage is but it will be no more than £10 including postage.
Many thanks Chris.
